with both tiote and cabaye a doubt for spurs who do you recon will lineup in the midfield, no doubt the wings are nailed down for jonas and marv whose had a brilliant pre-season and ben arfa wont be risked according to pards, so tht leaves the cms and we all know tiote is as tough as old boots but i cant see our two star men being risked so early on in the season. so personally i think we'll probably have gosling and romain in the center, i think afalmento (sorry for the spelling) looks like a top player but i still think gosling is a liability, personally ide like to see bigi because imo he has broad shoulders for an 18 year old and could defiantly handle the pressure on the big stage. those two have looked great together in preseason but i cant see pardew risking it. what do you recon the paring will be? would gosling be a safe choice?

IF Tiote is out, then I can see Pards playing Perch as a DM.

Then it depends on the overall line-up, as he might put Jonas or Marvo in the centre, rather than gamble on Abeid, Bigi, Amalfitano or Gosling. So may also depend on the fitness of th elikes of HBA - and of course what tactics he decides against Spuds.

You never know, he might even throw Anita straight in if it's sorted quickly enough. He has even played Raylor there before.

Plenty of options, so will depend on overall team availability.

If Cabaye, Tiote and Ben Arfa are all out, then there's no point, IMO, of trying to play our sexy football, because we'll have little creativity, and not enough class.

We might as well try and stay solid, and play our long ball game. If we try and compete with Spurs with a weaker side, we'll get outclassed and raped.

    I'd play -

    -------Shola-----------Ba/Cisse----------

    Marv---Jonas----Gosling-------Raylor

    Santon---Colo---Saylor------Simpson

    ------------Krul--------------------

Gosling looked pretty good creativity and attacking wise. Jonas as the more defensive CM.

I'd be very happy with a draw, and if we stay solid and take out their midfield, then I think we can get a win even. The best way to do that is no go to forward, and hump balls up to Shola to knock down for Cisse or Ba.

If we're without Ben Arfa and Cabaye, we'll need Marv!

    They have no strikers.

Or maybe we can play this -

    ----------Cisse/Ba--------------

    Marv-----Gosling--------Raylor

    ----Jonas------Anita/Perch----

    Santon---Colo---Saylor----Simmo

    --------------Krul------------

Amal shouldn't be risked as a standard CM. He should only be used as an attacking mid, with people behind him.

This. I am pretty convinced AP is going to start Obertan. He's done really well in preseason and I can see AP starting him at RW. As for the guys who want Jonas as DM, I know he's played there at a stretch, but I don't think he plays well in DM. He's not a tackler, he can cover ground for the defenders, but I really would much rather see him on the wing, maybe Perchino as the DM?

Assuming we're without Tiote, Cabaye and HBA, I would think it would be:

    marv - jonas - perch - obertan

can't say obertan fills me with confidence, but perhaps he is in the middle of a perch like transformation

I reckon AP will pack the midfield against spurs with 1 up front (probably Ba)
Would expect 1 of Perch and Raylor to play alongside Gosling and Vuckic (Whichever doesn't play will be saved for Atromitos alongside Amalfitano & Abeid) in the middle with the with Jonas and Obertan out wide.

I would prefer to see Bigi and Abeid in the middle, but it's a little early for Bigi and I expect Abeid to get a lot of European / cup games this season.

Let's not forget the international friendliest that are being played this week also.
Some of our guys had definitely been called up, Tiote, Colo, Cabaye for example?
Not the best of timings to play international friendliest this close to the season getting underway.
Tiote if not withdrawn through injury, would have been off to Russia.
Now l am not saying that these key players are not genuinely injured and may be doubtful for the weekend, but
It is worth bearing the above in mind. I am sure other teams in a similar position also have players withdrawn from international duties because of injuries, not just us!

This thread kinda shows why we're after 'yet another' CM in Anita.

Is Jonas not capable of playing a central AM role with Perch watching his back?

Well remembered, he's not injured, he just "WON'T DO IT FOOL"

Rest assured if he can be on that field come the weekend, he will be rampaging like a good un.

Keeping the faith, l think he will make a miraculous recovery
