Cllr Brady. Doesnt eat anything ending in an O or an A apart from tomato and potato. **** me sophistication I've **** em.

IT IS regarded as one of the signature dishes of luxury French cuisine.

But foie gras is unlikely to be tickling Hull City Council leader Councillor Steve Brady's tastebuds any time soon.

Admitting he is more partial to lamb chops and sausages, Cllr Brady even confessed to having to look in the dictionary to find out what it was before answering a question on the controversial liver pâté dish during a full council meeting.

The issue had been raised by Liberal Democrat Councillor Terry Keal during the traditional section when councillors are allowed to put questions to the leader and his cabinet.
With the dish now banned by several councils because of animal welfare concerns over its production, Cllr Keal asked the Labour leader if he could confirm whether or not foie gras was being served up in any council premises in Hull.

"Many people view foie gras as a cruel and contentious foodstuff," he said.

"A commitment not to serve it would ensure that high ethical standards are maintained by the council."

Cllr Brady was quick to put his mind at rest but not before acknowledging he knew little about it.

He said: "I can't even pronounce it and I've never eaten it.

"I don't eat anything that ends in 'o' or 'a' apart from tomato and potato.

"I don't often eat at fancy dos or I eat as little as possible, but I do watch carefully because you never know what they are putting in it.

"The straight answer to this, after finding out what it was by looking it up in the dictionary, is that it hasn't been served here for over ten years.

"I was not at that occasion when, I believe, it was served for the Queen.

"I don't get into that kind of level.

"Mine's more your lamb chops and sausages."

Cllr Keal said he had asked the question on behalf of a constituent who was firmly against foie gras.

"She told me that, whenever she sees it on a restaurant menu, she makes a point of asking the manager to take it off," he said.

The culinary proclivities you'd expect from the dull little fella but you would think he'd at least tried pizza.

Me been a man of the 21st century, I googled foie gras, rather than using the archaic dictionary method. Mucky French bastards :emoticon-0119-puke:

While I don't doubt her good intentions, I hope every manager politely tells her to **** off. She can vote with her feet by not frequenting these places rather than trying to impose her opinion on other customers.

In fact, she needs a good slap too.

Presumably she insists these restaurants only serve free range other meats too, that have been killed humanely whilst listening to classical music.

I personally don't like Foie Gras but in the grand scheme of things, most things that are killed for us to eat don't have hugely positive life experiences.

Actually I've just realised what he meant when he said he didn't eat anything ending with 'a'
He presumably thought that foie gras was just more than one foie gra....easy mistake

Most animals we eat haven't been wilfully tortured though. It's illegal to produce foie gras in the UK - there's a reason for that.

You don't think factory farmed animals are living a tortured but brief life?

I agree the force feeding is abhorrent but so is much else in the meat industry.

I'm not a tree hugging veggie btw I just think there's a little hypocrisy and attention seeking in all of this.

The picture the HDM used to illustrate the picture wasn't even foie gras which is a delicious smooth goose live pate. The picture looked to me more like a terrine!

I take your point but foie gras is beyond barbaric. Meat can be produced humanely and with respect for and care of the animal. Foie gras cannot.
