    Allegedly our best referee !
Why did he blow up for a foul when Palace had such an obvious advantage ? I thought they had an option to wait 3 seconds to see what transpires - and then 'call back' the play to award a free kick.

surely Mata was offside when that shot just came in ?? How does the referee award a corner when Mata was directly in front of the Palace keeper ( two yards offside )-- must have been 'interfering' with play

Berk's done it again - giving a foul on Ward when he was basically through on a run on goal - idiot !

I thought Clattenburg made a correct decision initially, the Palace player was well and truly down from the ref's angle, he blew immediately based on that observation. However, unlike Premier players he got up instead of rolling around, to go on and score. The ref had already blown a second time before the CP player scored. Yes, he could have played the advantage in an ideal world, but the decision was correct based on the split seconds they have to make a decision in my opinion, while the Palace player went on to slot the ball home while United defenders had already observed the ref's decision.

good of you to be so generous towards Mr.Clattenburg. - but I cannot ! The guy was too quick to blow his whistle. He is supposed to be the top ref in England - he should have the necessary ability to 'hold back' - just for a couple of seconds - but he didn't - the whistle was in his mouth as soon as the foul was committed. Ordinarily I would congratulate a referee for making a quick assessment of a foul - but not when the circumstances actually leads to a disadvantage to the 'aggrieved' side -- and THAT disadvantage was obvious. - and then he did it again a few minutes later - was he careless, stupid or cheating ?............ I'll use one of your recent replies

I think he did acknowledge he got it wrong just by his expression, the aggrieved party generally in that type of fall would have stayed down, certainly with Prem players anyway, unfortunately Clattenburg does not have the foresight of tv replay, we are asking of him to be robotic in nature, he's human he made a mistake, but not through carelessness, stupidity or cheating, just a genuine mistake because the player didn't go into freefall and roll around 10 times like they've been shot, which is the normal routine.

You are correct - most players would have stayed down -- but the Palace player realised that his team were in an advantageous position and wanted to capitalise. There were only a couple of other players in the Utd defensive half of the pitch. The ref was in a great position to have known the situation.... and not one where tv replays would have been needed.
I too can make (many) mistakes - but if I am at the top of my profession, I'd be very embarrassed to have made such a basic mistake once, let alone twice in quick succession...... Clattenburg got rightly slated by the pundits - and as for Pardew -- he might calm down by August ( not sure which year ).

to be honest, I never listened to the pundits or Pardew, so I didn't know how my own thoughts related to other views. I think yours was the first I saw.

So - what do you think about the Mata situation - he was 'well' offside - standing in front of the Palace keeper when a shot came in. Mata clearly obstructed the view for the keeper. He (Mata), was in the process of side-stepping the shot on goal when it got a deflection by a Palace defender - thus the award of a corner - BUT I maintain that Mata was 'active' in the scenario - If the ball hadn't been deflected, I would have expected that it would have been in the back of the net before the keeper had a chance to see it ( because Mata was directly in front of the keeper ). The corner should not have been given - instead Clattenburg should have signalled a free kick for the offside infringement............ this incident was also obvious, and not requiring of tv replays to 'help' the referee.

Today I was 'praised' by a friend for my ability for always being able to see the 'elephant in the room' - well, the stuff I've raised in this thread relates to a whole bunch of them (invisible to Clattenburg) - or at least I don't think that my mate thought that I was talking mumbo-jumbo.

now we hear that this 'berk' disease has spread to the 4th official - who has confiscated the mobile phone from the Turkish manager - I don't normally condone swearing in this forum - but - wtf ?

and I'm really looking forward to the berks' interpretation of the 'triple jeopardy' rule next season.

brb - I hope you haven't been listening to the pundits at half time - they're saying that Kane was only a 'bit' offside -- that's like telling an expectant mum that she's only a 'bit' pregnant ! - I'm glad they all think the referee's decision is funny - would they be laughing if it was against England ?

me - hysterical ! - I think you're confusing me with the Turkish manager !
Great performance by England - they're world beaters - that's hysterical.
You've got to feel a bit sorry for the Turks - conceded a comical goal from a dubious corner................ I wouldn't order a kebab for a while - you might not recognise all the ingredients !

I thought we were quite poor last night, Turkey certainly got everyone behind the ball when defending but broke quickly when they won the ball, our first touch needs a lot of work if we are to take this competition seriously.
