<peacedove>On the prospect of being sacked: "If the club decide to sack me because of bad results that's part of the game. If it happens I will be a millionaire and get another club a couple of months later.":emoticon-0107-sweat

  2. Although that is funny and honest, it also shows what state the modern game is in!

Something I would like to see but will never happen is - managers like Mourinho [maybe only Mourinho] who have made enough money [surely!] giving themselves a real challenge and boosting a small club by managing them after getting the sack from one of the football giants.

Imagine Mourinho/Mancini ... at say Wigan or Stoke!!!!

    or

    A real challenge ...Tranmere!!

Yeah that's the 'challenge' I would like to see them take on, but it won't ever happen, you're right.

As a side issue - could a trained chimp take on man utd and be successful? What does Moyes have to do to show it's his particular skills at work and not just the well oiled 'machine' doing what it was built to do ?

while they are wining no doubt, but not so sure the players would take as much notice of Moyes as they would fergie if the chips are down and he needs them to perform, they will just think who the **** are you to tell me what to do when you have won sod all in 11 yrs.

players think they are bigger than the club nowdays, how is Moyes going to get over that inferior complex with a lot of the players who have won a hell of a lot more than him and likely ever to.

don't personally care mind, and hope he sends them down lol.

doesn't Evra and Rooney already want out, wonder what the real reason for that is, if true.

Net spend at Inter was 500k

CL winning Porto squad was built on peanuts and had to face Real's Galactico's and United with their multi-million pound squad.

He led Leiria (a village side) to 5th place (their highest ever) and above Portugal's biggest club, Benfica and was competing with Sporting Lisbon and Porto. That's akin to AFC Wimbledon competing with Liverpool or Man Utd in case you are wondering.

With all due respect I think you are dangerously misinformed. Mourinho's work with a small budget has earnt him stints at cash rich clubs like Chelsea (X2) and Madrid.

Be interesting to see how utd perform in Europe where tactics is the make or break.

I have zero interest in them other than when they play us but I am intrigued how the new man will do considering where he's come from. utd's system is so well established from bringing through the youth, to being the biggest English team name abroad, you'd have to be really rubbish as a manager to mess that up or influence it in any way actually.

I understand all that about Mourinho's past manager history, my point really is since he made the big time and established himself and his reputation, it would be nice to see him [or other big name managers] take that reputation to a small club, challenge themselves and boost the club at the same time.

Make your mind up, as that's a total contradiction?

To say the manager's role there carries no significant influence is total pap, as if you're applying that to United, then it therefore applies across the spectrum - which is patently not how it works.

Moyes could destroy a dynasty if he makes a mess of it - see Graeme Souness for details on how this can be achieved. <ok>

<laugh> Just as I was taking you seriously...

I think Moyes will be fine, he once won the "Associate members' cup" whilst playing for Bristol City in the 80's. Giggs hasn't got that one.

never heard of this Associate members cup, does it have as much world wide recognition and respect as the Emirates cup, or even the top 4 trophy?

It will be interesting, it's a learning curve, if the playing staff are the same I'd imagine he would not make drastic changes.

If he goes and starts pulling off an overhaul tactically then he would be a silly boy given it's totally new territory for him so yeah he would have to be as you say rubbish if he goes down that road.

Moyes has been tactically outwitted by Roberto Martinez. CL is a different ball game.

I'll take your word for it but next seasons his options would I imagine be increased with a better team.

    Marginally a better team<whistle> <laugh>

The La Liga sides are going to come back firing after their respective humiliations in the CL SF (albeit Real restored some pride). Apart from Bayern I don't see any clear favourite.
