Clarke is continuing in his bid to to add at least one player to his squad before Rovers' Vanarama Conference season continues at Chester on Saturday. Jamie White's departure from the club earlier this week has given Clarke some room to manoeuvre on the financial side of things. Clarke said: "I've been assessing things very carefully over the last couple of weeks. I think the lads are doing well and have got us into a great position, but with a couple of new additions in certain areas we could really kick on to the next level. I'm not a manager who hangs around when there is a decision to be made and we know that we need to sort things out at the top end of the pitch. The only way I could make that happen was to look at making some changes. Yes, I signed Jamie, but it wasn't working out for either party and his move to Sutton was in the best interests of all concerned. If something is not working you have to look to change it around and move in a different direction to try to address the issue. I've worked with Jamie before and he is a good lad, but I had two promotions in three years at Salisbury and I think I had only three players there at the end that had been with me throughout."
I'm impressed with Clarke. Like all good managers he seems to be one step ahead and he gets on with things.
