Sky Sports understands Swansea City are eyeing a move for former Birmingham City striker Christian Benitez.

The Ecuador international only showed glimpses of his undoubted talent during his first stint in English football but has excelled since leaving St Andrew's.

He has spent the past couple of seasons in Mexico with Club America and has caught the eye with his performances and prolific goalscoring.

A number of other Premier League clubs are also thought to be tracking the progress of the 27-year-old, with Tottenham Hotspur among those to have recently been linked with a move.

There has also reportedly been interest from Atletico Madrid in Spain, and his future could soon be resolved.

It is understood that Benitez's agent has flown to the UK for talks with clubs who are considering a move.

I can't say I know anything about him but Spurs seem to be the front runners in chasing him ,if the papers are to be believed

Michu, Chico, Michy and Chucho sound like characters from a South American version of the Tweenies

I seem to remember him vaguely with brum and tbh I'd rather us steer away from this one. Scoring in a weak league proves nothing about his ability to do it against prem defences. Couldn't do it before, I wouldn't want us to gamble on him doing it now.

With good service he delivers, at Brum they couldn't pass to a skyscraper from 10 yards away. The Mexican league isn't that bad, it's not far short of the Dutch leave for quality. Easily the best in the Americas, better than the Brazilian and Argentine leagues anyway.
