When you say Beef tells you they're not true, what you really mean is "beef rips the article to shreds, then uses it to wipe his arse with."

Watch it dave; I suspect DM wouldn't mind bagging a few media "messengers" at his next shoot.

Which, incidentally, reminds me of the Tom Lehrer song about hunting in the States, the refrain to which was about the bag at the end of the day and went something like "...two hunters, three game wardens and a cow". Never hear any mention of Tom Lehrer nowadays. He was a maths professor in his day job and in his spare time a brilliant Flanders & Swan type cabaret artist with a gruesome Roald Dahl-like humour. Another song -- late 1950s, long before Hannibal Lecter -- went: "I hold your hand in mine, dear, and put it to my lips, and take a tasty bite of your slender fingertips ....."

Love a bit of Tom Lehrer, just a shame most of his stuff was never properly recorded! His elements song is brilliant amongst others. (sorry this isn't in the music thread!)

Ah Tom Lehrer! 'Poisoning Pigeons in the Park'; best darkly comic song ever!

Good couple of articles on Holt and MacNally in Premier League Owl. Can't do links. Sorry.

To give those who haven't heard of him a bit of context, you have to think USA late 1950s when e.g. there was still segregation in Southern schools, nuclear disarmament was a distant dream, and so on. You could call Lehrer the club circuit's Bob Dylan. Look out for "I Wanna Go back to Dixie", "The West is Where I Wanna Be", "My Home Town" and "An Irish Ballad" -- his comment on the latter was "You can't be a satirist without offending someone".

Apologies for sending this thread off at a tangent, but the OP didn't have far to run! That said, I think dave needs to hone his logic. He tells McNally about an article in the hope that DM will crucify the messenger and then tells me not to snipe at him! <laugh>

[Edit] re. the nuclear arms race, look out for "We'll All Go Together When We Go".

Robbie, I know there was no malice in your OP, and no offence was taken! I would, however, like to explain my actions. When things are a bit quiet, I look to put something up for you guys to comment on, rather than let the place stagnate and get mistaken for the binners (spit) board!

If you're really not happy with me doing that, I will stop, no problem!

<ok> dave; certainly no malice and no offence intended. My patience has just been stretched to breaking point by the ridiculous over-reaction and synthetic emotion stoked by gossip, rumours and idiocy. What is the point in people keeping on reiterating their trust in the board, DM and PL and then immediately demonstrating that they don't have a shred of trust in them at all? DM's tweet explaining exactly what the end of season procedure is and where they have got in the process should be a lesson to everyone to calm down -- and read the Premier League Owl's words of wisdom about what a gem of a CEO we have. Where was DM on Saturday? Firefighting to stop NCFC going down the pan once again? No, at Lords hoping to see Chanderpaul get a century. Cue for some idiot to come on and quote "Fiddling while Rome burns"!

To put (some) words in DM's mouth: get a grip and come support Adam Drury, Grant Holt, Hucks and the rest of the boys on Tuesday night.
