Would you agree that it would have been easier to defend under Rodgers style of play than Laudrups . It does have an apple and orange comparison when they've played under different managers .
I'm sorry swansalona , I thought Canas was doing a wonderful job. But it was injury that brought Chico in and moved Amat up . I think Canas is great and was looking forward to him moving up a bitnwhile Britton held back. It's Amat at cb where I think we were having problems .
At our level, is Chico our David Luis? At his best, Luis is a great player but is always liable to that big blunder and I find Chico the same type.
I just got the idea you thought Canas was not doing well when he was on the pitch, hence how you said the game changed for the better, I could have misunderstood. I personally thought it was a bad thing for us, as thought we became too open in the centre of the pitch. I also think Amat is a grewat CB, he unlike our other 2, keeps on his man, rather than attempts to guess where the ball is going, such as Williams being at fault for what should have been the first goal to Man Utd with his usual try to catch the player up the pitch, which allowed Man Utd to overrun our defence, thankfully Welbeck pulled it wide. Amat for me provides us with more security.
Couldn't have put it better myself ivor , he really is our Luis . One huge difference though is Chelsea didn't need nasty , we did!
I thought the same, was a bit gutted it didn't happen. Thought Chico would have done well in that role.
Yes indeed swanselona, but as Ivor and Dragon have pointed out in previous posts, his weakness may well have led Laudrup to choose Amat, though Chico would or should have been the obvious choice.
Seeing I'm getting my wish list out there , I'd also like to see Taylor get some games in a row. Davies has been worrying me lately but after yesterday alarms are going off!
To be honest thats where I thought the change would be but on reflection Chico has a tendency to wander and probably without Ash along side would have lost all positional sense .
Trust you Norway!.............. I'm liking 'The Hobbit', wonder what the Knackered one will make of him, he could well blow a fuse with all this love and peace......................
Back to the OP, I'm all for giving Chico the benefit of the doubt, lets all hope he improves, it will be good for our defensive shape.
We have a good squad of players who can put on a good show whoever is picked. I don't have a problem with whatever side is put out against anyone, Its the way they play is the problem. Its alien to most of the old players who were so confident in playing a certain way that they were all comfortable on the ball. It was a winning formula and it made us the envy of all in the lower leagues and some in the premiership and now its ruined and a negative type of football that will produce an odd good game once in a blue moon. there is not an ounce of consistency in our play whatsoever not even in a single game where each half is never the same. That is our main problem and i cant see it ever changing until ML has moved on....Will we survive? Yes i hope so but you could never say with hand or heart that we definitely will but probably will due to others who are just as bad or worst...
My final word on this one . When it comes to central defenders , Chico is my# 1.Thanks for the debate!
