Yeah I'm confused too, we have had two seasons in the top flight, yet we are a bigger club than Newcastle. Many clubs in the championship and league one are bigger than us in terms of history, stadium etc.
This is a non story. Why would Chester want to leave. We have just been promoted. We are a team with forward momentum. At the moment he is first choice. There are enough players who are with teams who missed promotion or relegated who are flooding the transfer market.
Money simple answer. What if we've set a limit of 20-25 grand a week and his agent is saying he can get him 40??
Think it was £4m + McShane with £1.2m going to Brentford and Charlton. Or was it £4m including McShane?
I think Paul mcshanes value was included in the £4 figure, I'm sure it turned out it was £2.5m + mcshane
Chester would be silly to leave now - at Villa he'll have competition for places and at Newcastle he'll know he'd be binned off as soon as the next flavour of the month becomes available. If we're sticking with 3-5-2, we have 3 centre-back positions to fill on a matchday rather than 2, so even if we brought in 2 new central defenders, he knows he'd still start.
McShane had nothing to do with the Turner deal, they were just done at the same, McShane's fee was not included in the Turner deal, nor was his fee ever revealed(it was rumoured to be £500k). Of the £4m fee, we kept £2.8m, the other £1.2m went to Charlton/Brentford in sell-on clauses.
