Newcastle’s Hatem Ben Arfa is easily one of the most exciting players in the Premier League and news that Chelsea are lining up a bid for the midfielder has been met with general approval in the Football Transfer Tavern.

Reports in The Sun suggest that the Blues are prepared to pay £12 million to secure the winger but any move have to wait for the summer after the French international was ruled out until after the New Year with a hamstring injury.

Newcastle will not want to lose their star man especially at this stage of the season but Alan Pardew has previously admitted that he could be powerless to keep his big players at the club if large offers come in. Demba Ba is set to leave the club in January and Cheick Tiote could also be on the way to Stamford Bridge in the near future.

Ben Arfa was out for almost a year with a broken leg soon after joining Newcastle from Marseille in 2010 but was outstanding last year as the Magpies played their way into an unlikely Europa League spot and he has continued his fine form into this campaign.

There is little doubt that the talented French winger would be an excellent addition to the wealth of attacking options at Stamford Bridge.

Hazard, Mata, Oscar, Marin, Moses, Piazon. I think it is fair to say its highly unlikely to be what they are after in the window. Particularly as since arriving Benitez has split up the holy trinity of Hazard, Mata, Oscar. Oscar being the one who has missed out. He has repeatedly stated he wants to add a defensive minded player to the midfield to balance out their attacking instincts, hence the brilliant Oscar watching on.

Given the equally ridiculous price tag mentioned, I think we can safely put this one down as lazy journos.

 

If Benni went anywhere it would be to either Arse or Spuds IMHO.

 

They need strikers, they have about 3 million skillsters.

Chelsea seems unlikely and I think Spurs are after Boudebouz from Montpellier (who we should be after aswell). Arsenal seems the most likely to me but would they spend the 20m to get him?

Agree, not really sure where he would fit in for them. They have better versions in Mata and Hazzard.

 

I can't really see any truth in this one.

Chelski already have too many 'creative' players and struggle to fit them all in.

Benitez has already shown he prefers the pace and power of Moses over Oscar so I can't see that he'd be interested in HBA.
