That's true, but it doesn't mean he shouldn't be blamed for the current situation. We are back in the top tier, but we appear just as incapable of surviving there as we were two seasons ago. That's down to Farke. The levels of denial on here are quite staggering. Also, anyone who thinks a second relegation isn't something to be too concerned about, because we can just shake ourselves off and go again next season, is making a big mistake. The fall-out from failure this time will be on a completely different scale.
Last season it was anything other than promotion and we are doomed , IF we go down we will lose our loanees and some young talent and go again. Other than spending huge on expensive players we are very limited in our pursuit of survival. Sacking Farke and giving the new guy the same squad is crazy . I will give Farke until January 2023 and If we are not in the play offs , possibly then boot him
So? The relevant fact is not how good Man City are, but that Brighton are streets ahead of us irrespective of their result today.
What’s your basis for this? The club looks stronger throughout. The youth development pipeline is strong. The numbers are strong. The first team is young, we wouldn’t need to sell anyone. You have absolutely no basis for supposing the fallout will be worse than last time. Pure guesswork and frankly your predictions previously haven’t been very strong.
I basically agree with Robbie on this. If Farke deserves the credit for the two wonderful seasons in the Champs when we were clearly by far the best team in the league (which he does), he has to take the blame for the shambles (so far) that this season is becoming. What I find difficult to understand is 1) why we recruited two excellent wide players (who we don't play) when we didn't buy any real support for Pukki in the box (Sargent doesn't count, he's not as good as Hugill, let alone Premiership quality), 2) why we failed to recruit a player to perform the role that Skipp did so well last season, and 3) why Farke has abandoned 4-2-3-1 when he clearly seems not to believe in 3-5-2 or 4-3-3. I guess I am saying that the recruitment, although excellent in theory apart from wasting 10m on a player who doesn't even have basic ball skills, seems to bear no relationship to the formation we are trying to play. We have abandoned so-called 'Farkeball', but have nothing at all to replace it. For me, I'd like to go back to Farkeball and if we go down to glorious defeat, so be it. At the moment we are like a Hughton side without even the (relative) solidity that Hughton managed to give us. It's horrible to watch.
If we get relegated again, we lose Gilmour, Williams, Kabak and Normann instantly, with Cantwell and Aarons out the door shortly after. Rashica and Sargent maybe stay, they would have stayed at Werder Bremen had we not come in for them. And it's not like back-t0-back relegations are going to have enhanced their CVs. For Farke, and the likes of Krul, Hanley, Pukki, McLean can they recapture their Championship form, again? Can they motivate themselves to hit those highs again, knowing the season after is likely going to be a repeat of this? Does Webber stay, or admit failure and find a better paid, easier job with an established Premier League club? Newcastle or West Ham would be smart to come after him.
I agree. If we go down again, I think both Webber and Farke will be gone, and it's far from sure that we would come straight back up. Tzolis (if we hold on to him) might tear up the league in the way that Buendia did last season, Sargent might do OK as the big lump in the centre who scores goals almost by accident on the laws of probability, and the defence might be quite strong by Championship standards. But the so-called 'Farkeball' experiment (or whatever you want to call it) of the last few years will be over. We'll be just another humdrum Championship team among all the others scrambling to get out of there.
Ok I’m done here for a while. This is a massive overreaction. We’ve basically just lost to Barcelona: big deal. Let’s see where we are in five matches. We might be virtually relegated, shrug: what’s the difference. Or we might not.
Krul was excellent, genuinely one of the best goalkeeping displays I've seen at Chelsea in quite some time. If it's any consolation these kind of results happen to everyone. We lost 6-0 to City 2 years ago, United lost 6-1 to Tottenham last season, Liverpool lost 7-2 to Aston Villa. Arsenal lost 5-0 to Man City this season. I could go on.
Chelsea yesterday scored as many or more than ALL the West Indian batters barring Gayle and Hetmyer!!
Yet they still didn't beat us. We must have played really well to manage to draw with a team that are streets ahead of us.
But the truth is other than failing to keep us in the PL, everything they have done at the club has improved it. All the fans moaning would have been more that happy with our performance under their reign, if you asked them at the start of the project if they would be happy with where we are now. DF & Webber are not immune to criticism, but if you look back over the last 10 years, who has done a better job than them. And as for fans asking for players to pay back for their tickets, the fans need to get real, with our level of resources we are never going to be able to compete with Chelsea, Liverpool, Man City and any other club in this league and fans performance in supporting the team was far from great. We were always going to get spanked in this game and it should have been obvious to all but the most deluded of fans The old the club hasn't shown any ambition line is nonsense, to risk the future of the club in order to compete in a league we are always going to struggle in would be suicidal. I don't care if we yoyo up and down for the next 50 years, if it means we still have a club in 50 years time and have owners that have morals.
I'm pretty certain we will go down. Do I care? Not especially. The point about clubs like us, WBA, Bournemouth, Fulham and a few others is that, except in odd circumstances, we are never going to compete in the top flight long term. As Duncan observed unless we can afford massive transfer fees and six figure weekly wages we are never going to. The only way we are ever going to do that is the billionaire owner route. To be perfectly honest I would rather be slugging it out with Ipswich in the third division than that.
Don't flounce off Rob , we have super dooper positive posters like Rose tinted Rick down to Robby the Doom Goblin and everything in between. That's a good thing in my opinion. I'm closer to Rick on the scale and still have a teeny weeny hope that we may pull off the greatest of great escapes. I don't think Farke knows what he's doing at this level and the long run of 19 games over 2 seasons without a win and barely any goals letting in a ridiculous amount I lost count probably 40 or 50 proves that. The incredible change of fortune and results after the last relegation proves he's World's apart at Championship level. It doesn't make sense but that's where we are . IF we go down again we will lose our loanees but if they aren't good enough to keep us up then at least we don't need to commit to massive transfer fees. If Krul can't stomach another relegation we have Gunny, Omobamidele is good enough for first team action , Kamara and Dickson Peters aren't far behind Dowell Tzolis and Rashica will blow Championship teams away. Chelsea are a Global brand like Barcelona Real Madrid Man City They should form their own money league and play in Qatar every week .
Like Rob, I'm going to step back for a while. Experiences like this cloud the issue emotionally - 'it's really embarrassing to support a team that this happens to' sort of emotionalism. It's tough for all of us, but as District Line says, it happens to every team at times. Southampton lost 8-0 a while back then responded to that by scraping survival. As Rob says, the next 5 matches will tell us whether we have a chance of survival. So far, 7 of the 9 matches played have been against top half teams, Watford and Burnley being the exceptions. The next 5 teams are the ones we must take points off of and this is where we'll find out what's possible or not. We need a big response against Leeds first and foremost and then continued beyond that. The potential is there, but it's now that it has to be realised.
Goal of the month will be embarrassing for the club's Twitter account. It's only a game the club's in safe hands a little perspective is needed . As I refuse to live in a papers please society and show proof of "vaccination " to attend games this season was already a write off for me. That Gillingham friendly may well be my last Norwich game after 30 years of attending . Much more important things to concern yourself with in life than this bullshit
I remember watching the second goal live and saw the pass that scythed our midfield and defence apart and just said wow out loud.... we were bad and they were good. Do you think if Farke goes he will fall on his sword or he would wait to be sacked? If he did go I have no idea of who could take over. The only person who I think could do a good job would be Mark Robins
We need a manager that can get us promoted next season , I would keep him . Possibly give an experienced Premier league battler manager until the end of the season to work alongside Farke. Steve Bruce will be available soon bring him in and give him a crash course in German. Farke probably wouldn't like it but he can't defend his results. If that dents his pride let him quit , our club is more than Farke and he needs help .
