My dad was a Chelsea fan (one of the reasons I look at your Board - I'm not a WUM, honest) and I've just found a dozen or so Chelsea programmes from 1970/71 at my mum's house.

Happy to send them at my expense to someone who will give them a good home.

Please PM me if you think you deserve them.

Thats a very kind gesture PowerSpurs! I'm a notorious hoarder and have kept every programme since I first saw Chelsea in 1959 (including a full set fro 70-71) . Just a little piece of advice ! Among my collection I discovered I had 2 copies of the 70-71 CWC Final in Athens v Real Madrid! My son asked me to put one up for sale on ebay and it fetched £169!

There was also a Chelsea v Stoke league cup final one from 1972, signed by Harold Wilson. I have put that on eBay because of the signature, but I'd rather the others went to a proper Chelsea fan.

Power Spurs, if you are serious, and you read our boards, you should know you couldn't do better than give the programmes to Bluemoon 2 There's no doubt they will be looked after for years to come.

Totally agree, BlueMoon2 would be the perfect guy. I am too young to fully appreciate them

Agree. I was not born til 71; and Blue Moon would find the best home for them.

My dad has pretty full set from 50s through early 80s

Its very kind of you all to propose me as the recipient! However--as I mentioned I have been a long time hoarder. I have a complete set of programmes from the first season after the war (46-47) which my very first boss gave me, and every one from April 1959 (my first game v Everton) until summer 1974 when I didn't miss a single game. When this run came to an end it was because it was my wedding day! I therefore have all the programmes you are generously donating PowerSpurs, so it would be preferable to offer them to another deserving collector!
Incidentally--I have a room at home that is known as "The Chelsea Room" where I have a vast hoard of Chelsea memorabilia--countless programmes, Chelsea mags, books, statuettes, framed team photos etc ,etc and its getting to a point where I might have to have a clearout or face the wrath of 'er indoors!

    Blue.

Can I ask you a couple of questions?

The biggest Chelsea followings for a league game I have ever witnessed away are at Highbury 84 followed by Highbury 77.
And the largest away support at the Bridge I have witnessed is Palace 76 and Spurs 84.

What are yours? My dad reckons United brought 20k in the 60s. And Spurs 20k for a Cup night game mid60s too.

I'd love to take them but would feel guilty as they're worth money. You're quite entitled to profit from these powerspurs and should do so really.

I remember a midweek cup replay against Spurs when I left work at 5 o' clock in Whitechapel to go to Fulham Broadway (about 1/2 hr journey). When we arrived we saw a dense mass of bodies packing Fulham Rd and we had to inch our way towards the turnstiles. The big doors outside, were closed just seconds after we got through them! By the time we got to the top of the terracing the game which kicked off at 7.30PM was already 10 minutes old! 2 hours to get from Fulham Broadway Station to the instde of the ground!! Crazy!! We had 70,123 inside--the biggest I'd ever seen. Been in plenty over 60k though!

As you say Spurs, Arsenal and MU were always sure of a big gate at SB!

No-one should feel guilty - its a genuine offer - I'd rather they wenet to a Chelsea fan rather than someone who is trying to profit from them - so you have to persuade me that you intend to keep them, not sell them.

    Thanks Blue.

What about the biggest away following from Chelsea you have ever witnessed?

My dad says practically the whole ground for Rangers away (20k plus) and Watford (40k plus) at White Hart Lane in 70.

PowerSpurs - very generous of you, I think we'd all agree that CFCTEL would make a good home for them.

Fulham too. Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't we get 52k vs Fulham when in the 2nd tier

Wouldn't dream of selling them. I'm a memorabilia freak, mostly music stuff though but I still have old programmes and signed Chelsea photos. Unfortunately, thery're still all in Storage stateside!. My son's a Chelsea nut too & started collecting programmes when we came back from the States 2 years ago. Funnily enough, he wasn't really into football over there cos he was a karate boy (although he did play in goal for a couple of seasons when we first went there) which took upall of his time but since we've been back, I'mm pleased to say he loves the club & we cried together last Saturday evening. Memories that'll never fade!

DL --you may well be right! Its easy to forget crowds that size, as any crowd under 60k before the building of new stands, left you with lots of elbow room on the terraces! Always loved the away at Craven Cottage!
I remember in the early 60's where we must have close to 70k in a Div TWO game in a promotion clash against Stoke!
