For those watching the Chelsea v Man Utd game:

Look at the Chelsea formation. That should be our formation and is what managers like Di Matteo et al would play us in!!

Ive got to the point where id like LDC back and he could just tell them to go out an attack.

Also, there isnt a single British manager that Id want who would come to us. Every one of the ones Id be happy with is foreign. That is the way we should go.

Utd playing a variation of that as well albeit with 2 more traditional wide men....however the huge difference - apart from the quality of the players obv - is the pace they both play at. Consequently the defenders are retreating as the other team attacks which is much more difficult than when they have time to face a ponderous opposition going sideways....we had a number of counter attacks yesterday that looked promising but ended up with someone, normally SWP, going sideways and backward allowing the defence to reorganise.......exhibit A your honour - MU's goal.....

Chelsea in their lovely formation are 1 nil down...we can do that too! in our current formation of 4-1-1-2-1-1 or what ever we are currently doing

Thats my point, we dont attack with pace of flood the box because of Hughes instructions to be so defensive and negative.

LOL. I was thinking exactly the same thing Col. Two from Diakite, M'Bia, Granero, Faurlin and Derry as DCMs.

You're sort of missing the point. Both teams playing similar formations, utd just executing better but the key is to attack and break with pace as the defenders are invariably facing the wrong way....doubt it will stay 0-2

If the manager does the right thing and the players fail to do their part then the players can be blamed.
If the manager (Hughes) doesnt do the right thing and the players are obviously doing the wrong thing under instruction (being totally negative) then the manager is rightly blamed.

Lads, my post was a mixture of irony and schadenfreude, can't help grinning when the Blues come unstuck. But I agree, the 4-2-3-1 is the way to go these days, we just need a few better players to carry it off properly...

The stupid thing is he bought the players to play that formation, why have we only got 3 forwards, all over 30 and 1 of those is injury prone and out long term leaving us 2 forwards to play a 442. Its possible we will have some games with zero forwards available.

Now compare the players and their ability? What may work for 1 team may not work for another? AS i said too many wannabe managers that don't actually think.
