Alright gang, I'm not long back from Sidcup leisure centre where my three year old son has attended his first ever structured football session, run by my beloved Charlton Athletic... There was a load of toddlers there hurtling around like little lunatics, all chasing after the ball like they were a bunch of scoucers on their way to get their giro's. They were absolutely loving every single minute of it. With all the training routines so brilliantly tailored to maintain the attentions of such easily distracted little minds. I was left very much impressed with the whole experience. Most impressive of all was the enthusiasm, kindness and patience of the three young men who were in charge of the session. These lads don't earn fortunes, but you can see they absolutely love their work and this most definitely rubs off on the little ones who listened and watched intently to their every word and action. My boy was a little tentative as it was his first session and one of the coaches took him effortlessly under his wing and guided him through with the aplom of a seasoned parent (yet he's only 21). Those lads are a credit to our club, themselves and their profession... Long may their wonderful work and level of commitment continue. Since we've got home Franco Jnr has been full of it. If Mrs Franco has to hear about him dribbling the ball with a cone on his head one more time i think she may attempt to microwave her head... .
The community side is a credit to the club, brings in really good PR, get's local youngsters to involved with the club and I understand makes the club a little bit of money as they hire Charlton facilities whenever possible Something we should all be proud of
Lovely story... I remember when I was a kid, Matt Parish coaching me at Crook Log; he's now the head of the community set up I believe... We got a free orange Minerva Nova ball that was ours for the week and I treasured for years, a packet of Wagon Wheels and a hat...
So what can we expect from him as a player, Franco? Got to be bullish and say a loan to the blue square now wouldn't harm his chances, and he can return more focused and use to a more physical type of football. Big season for him.
… He’s all left foot and loves tackling (I’ve got the bruises up my shins to prove it). I’m not sure what the future holds for Franco Jnr Super… He loves nothing better than having a kick about with his old man in the garden and nothing would give me more pleasure than for him to share his old dads love of the beautiful game (number two son is built like tank, reckon he’ll either be a midfield enforcer or prop forward… ). I was lucky to have played footy at a good standard up until I wrecked my knee badly at 24 (not kicked a ball in anger since). I loved every single minute of my time playing football. Imo football is such a great sport when it comes to building character, spirit and making lifelong friends. I met 80% of my close pals through playing football… Like any parent… All I want is for my boys to be happy. I just hope that at some point in their lives they’ll choose to immerse themselves in a sporting activity that they genuinely love, which will hopefully assist in molding them into fine young men that I can be proud to call my boys. what was the hat like Kish...?
i heard Franco Junior posting on twatter the other day. must admit i wasnt impressed. he`d already been speaking about spending his 10K a week pay packet on a pink Baby Bentley and roasting some doris from TOWIE. think you better step in before its too late mate
