News going around that the deal has been done and Charlie Adam is officially a Liverpool player. So what do you make of this signing? I'm a bit unsure of it to be honest. He was by far Blackpool's best player last season but that wasn't to hard since they weren't exactly a great team. Can he make the step up to a team challenging for Champions League football? I am, however, delighted that after numerous seasons and managers, Steven "can't take a corner to save his life" Gerrard will now be off set pieces, thank **** for that! Mata next!
Is this 'news' twitter based? I somehow doubt that even if a deal has been done, news of it would be released at such an hour.
I've just read this in the fail http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...refusing-budge-6m-valuation-Charlie-Adam.html I hope this is right because if we can get him for this amount then it would be an excellent bit of business
I believe he would be a good player to have in the squad. If he does come in for around £6M, that would be excellent business in my opinion.
Still not convinced by him, but yes he would improve the squad so along as we manage to sell some of our dead wood to make space then yes.
It's a daft enough reason to want him, but I do believe we need at least one jock in the squad! Look back to 1892, and about 10 of them were McSomething or another. And think of all the classy scots we've had since then. Especially at £6M Oyston is as big a robber as his dad if he thinks we should pay more!
News coming in that the transfer will be blocked because you can't join a club 35 times! Sorry, a little twitter joke. If you believed the stuff on there he would've signed 3 Tuesdays ago.
I would love Charlie Adam to join. He puts in a shift every game and has great vision - not only when passing but also positionally when off the ball. I caught quite a few of Blackpools games last season (including their home match vs Newcastle in April) as I'm sure most of us did - Ian Holloway and his team were great! I think he is a decent player and would improve our squad; he is a very similar player to Alonso - I'm not saying as good but when the ball is in midfield he either has it or is the closest to the guy that does have it. But, do we need him? We've just signed Henderson, then there's Gerrard, Lucas, Spearing, Meireles, Poulsen, Shelvey and the Scarlet Pimpinel (Aquilani) - not to mention reserves looking to step up. Ok, so Poulsen, Aquilani and, to a lesser extent, Meireles are all likely to leave, but there are surely higher priority positions to address - left, for example. Konchesky will go (please God!!) and I'm not sure if Insua is going to be kept or what (anybody?). Aurellio really ought to be scrapping it out for 2nd choice with Flanagan (who has really impressed) and a real quality left back brought in. Then there is the small matter of replacing Steve McManaman which we are still don't seem to have got round to - 12ish years and still no significant winger at the club!?
After you finish your clear out of deadwood you will need someone like Adam. On the original post by King Kenny, I have never understood why Gerard takes your corners. Surely he would be better placed hanging around edge of the area to drill in clearences or make late runs into the box?
We won the European Cup in '77 without a Jock in the side. And that was when there were a lot of Jocks taking jobs from good young English lads. The Jocks used to claim the English league would be nothing without them. I think we can see whose league is nothing without Jocks playing in England. Managing is a different story.
