........as well as on it. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/19781296 I hope this is as successful as the changes in playing personnel but I have my concerns. Keeping some of the established infrastructure off the field is needed to maintain the links to the local community and understand the culture. If Tan is going to replace the whole governance model (Doug Lee has already been replaced as FD by Simon Lim from Malaysia) he may lose some of the local knowledge and links with the fans / community. He needs to keep the right blend of old and new. I'm sure the guys he's putting in place are very capable, certainly Lim is already an senior employee of Tan's empire, and they will build the links back to Malaysia and exploit Tan's wider portfolio, but do they have any understanding of football? I just hope they don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.
Don't necessarily see it as a problem, more of an off-field management structure change that shouldn't affect the playing side. After all, Gethin came and went pretty seamlessly. I think this is just more evidence of Tan expunging the old guard, many of whom oversaw the club's descent into abysmal debt even if they weren't personally responsible for it. The Hamman/Langston saga will be next, and I can see the Guy & Hall secured loan being targeted by VT for removal before long. Not sure about the current position with Ransom's PFF mortgage, but if it's still there, it wont be for long. I hope getting rid of the old guard doesn't include Steve Borely - the guy deserves a medal for sticking his own limited dosh over the years.
Agree with Borley staying, if it wasnt for him we would have been up 'sheet street without a paddle long ago' however as supporters we mush embrace this change, as it is purely a business decision and Tan obviously sees the appointment of moving the club forward.
Agree with the above comments. This club owes its very existence to Steve Borley and he should be made a life president or some similar position. Whatever changes are made this man must remain a director of the club. Maybe this is the forum for all of us to make our comments about Steve in the hope the message gets through to VT. This is not a criticism of our current owners but this local connection must remain.
It's the point I was trying to make hampshire. I'm confident that Lim will be a good addition with his links back to Malaysian and Berjaya and he will grow the club leveraging off this. I do worry that if ALL the focus is on business with little football background and a feel for the South Wales region and psyche it will be a mistake. We need representation on the board with that local connection to give balance to the team. One good thing is that I believe Lim is to be based in Cardiff rather than abroad. It sounds as if there is concensus on who the local rep should be. I think you're right about the debt though Sparkey. Bit by bit it will be dealt with and Tan will take sole ownership. It's been a slow process but Tan is doing it the right way. I've more confidence in his approach than many of the other foreign owners as discussed in an earlier thread. Isn't Sam due in the country this week? Tan is already here. A nice cosy dinner, watch the Brum game, shake hands, deal done. I live in hope.
If he shakes hands with sam about anything he needs to make sure there is a wintess and then count his fingers to make sure he has still got them all
I was under the impression that Sam and Tan were meeting at the stadium during or after the Blackpool match, VT was due to fly back but remained for the Brum match, there must have been more to staying for the extra days than just the football, however everything is just rumors or guess work concerning SH, but his hold on the club is unwanted by everyone and i for one hope it is sorted pronto, as there are bound to be penalty clauses in SH debt, i would certainly have them in there if it were me and for that reason i think VT and his team will have this sorted in the near future.
