I remember a few on here not long ago, worried and slating the manager that we'd be having a relegation battle.........all seem happy now!
Careful mate - I’m enjoying the current trend too and there is no way we are going down this season, but there is still time for it to go wrong. We have a cup Comp going on and Hull are in fantastic form and breathing down our necks!!
All fans are fickle, me included , if the losing streak had gone on and we’d been pulled into a relegation battle questions would have been asked , and rightly so imo. All managers are aware it’s a results business, we are lucky our owner is more patient than most , but there’s still a point at which enough is enough.
"If" is a little word with a large meaning. Questions are always asked no matter what position you are in the table...IMO, you can not always blame the manager every time you go on a losing streak. There are always other factors that need to be considered..gelling new players, losing key players, injuries, form etc. Kneejerk reactions seems to be the norm by some of our fans rather than seeing the bigger picture of what the manager is trying to do....LJ has never been clueless and will always give 100% to the club......IMO, you can't ask for more than that.........I continue to be A HAPPY CLAPPER!!!
All the points you raise are reasonable , and whilst I agree there are other factors to be taken into account , at some point the manager has to take responsibility, and had we been drawn into a relegation battle for me that is crossing the line into the unacceptable. Are you really saying you would leave LJ in charge regardless? , If not what is unacceptable for you, Relagation? , dropping below the Gas ?. For me it’s not a LJ thing , I would find a relegation battle unacceptable whoever was in charge. For the record I like Lee and hope he does succeed, just saying if he doesn’t for whatever reason we should let someone else have a go.
Of course we should replace him if he has all the tools but fails at his job. And of course Relegation would not be acceptable. But being a good manager, he changed things with what he had and turned it around....Who's to say, had he been fired if his replacement would have done the same and gone so many games unbeaten...LJ was in the best position to turn it around as he knew with what was there to work with. So many managers out there doing the circuit trying to redeem themselves for their previous failings..In LJ, we don't have that..We have a young, intelligent, modern and hungry manager striving to be successful at our club...I'm fairly confident, given enough time with a consistent squad, he will take us up..
I was absolutely one of these. Let's not forget, a couple of these games in this run have been absolute dog sh*te, we have been genuinely dreadful. But results don't lie, absolutely well done LJ because he's found a way to win. It may not be pretty at times but I think it's mainly based on our rock solid defence - Webster in particular really looks the part. I do still think the run flatters us a bit and we are overachieving based on how we're playing in some ways, but the longer this goes on then the better. It would be nice to have a bit more flair and creativity in the final third, but Palmer may well be the answer to that.
Imagine what might happen if we find that flair you talk about Rob and then it could get remarkable. Let's wait and see where the chips lie after our next fixture away to Forest.
SL in the frenzy of the ASHTON VALE / STADIUM revamp with relegation / promotion and all the things that went on since 2009 sort of lost the calmness … doing this that and the other to do all things at once … 5 pillars etc etc etc...……… He then calmed down, took stock and came up with a plan ….. a ? years plan, get in a team to run the club, a manager and team to be able to fight through thick and thin ... and have the resolve to stick with them [ coaching ] whether they went down or looked likely to. [ he pretty much said that if you listened carefully to what he said ] In reality, [ and the proverbial we will never know!] had we gone down with a new stadium etc etc and bounced back at first time of asking … a bit of silverware maybe [ second lot in a couple of years ] with Lee still in charge how many neggies would still be spewing out like Vesuvius! I reckon SL saw there was no point chucking £xm in managerial compensation and rebuilding 2 or more times a year but to do as you do when you make an investment or build a house start at the bottom [ foundation ] and add to it
If ever anyone has criticised the club for not doing better, I've asked them to quantify what they expect in terms of position etc, so it's only fair for me to do the same for when I'd say 'that's enough, get rid'. Had we been in the bottom 3 come the end of December, I think that should have been enough to call time, but if only a point or two above that get feedback from the players themselves to make a decision.
Though there's always room to ask for more, there were plenty of people who gave no credit to times where we got lesser results when playing well because it's 'all about the result' but then turn around and say 'we've just been lucky'. I say, as I've said elsewhere, for as many occasions where we've missed out on points we deserved and missed out on, I'm not going to complain about those we've won when we maybe didn't.
2 clubs doing very well at the moment .. both have hovered near bottom and seen teams in good positions above swap out their manager … now hovering around the top so disproves to a degree being in bottom 3 is disaster!
Absolutely, which is why I personally would only judge over a longer period, i.e. half the season. It does go to show that you don't necessarily improve by reacting to the short term
for that statement to be true, then why do so many on here and elsewhere react so negatively when we drop into bottom 8 or lose 4 on the trot!
