5 games left to go this season and we entertain the cobblers at adams park in what on paper should be a dead cert for 3 points.they are in freefall having gone 15 games without a win and an away record that reads won 2, drew 8, and lost 10.but this is wycombe we are talking about and we always seem to do things the hard way.after a very impressive performance by john paul pitman last week away at oxford gary waddock has to decide between jp rendell and beever as to who starts the game and i personally would go with jp and rendell up front as they are the in form strikers.with matty bloomfield back in training and gazza getting near fitness it will be interesting to see what midfield we will start with.surely andy sandell will play at left back and fozzy at right back with mccoy dropping to the bench.my prediction 3-1 to the blues
I hate this sort of game. We have a tendency to struggle in matches that we are expected to win. Having a fully fit (near enough) squad makes it a tough choice for Waddock as to who will actually start. Do we go for Lewis and Montrose to break up any Northampton threat or do we play the more attacking Donnelly/Bloomfield? Up front for me it should be Rendell and JPP because Beavon just doesn't score enough goals. MY TEAM: BULL, MCCOY, SANDELL, JOHNSON, WINFIELD, LEWIS, MONTROSE, DONNELLY, BETSY, RENDELL, PITTMAN.
i thought mccoy had his worst game for us last week and foster hasnt really put a foot wrong so i would go with foster at right back and bring on starvin marvin if we need him
Guess we will find out about 2 o'clock on Saturday. Only left GA out because I don't think he will be fully fit.
Definitely mccoy- foster is slow and unconfident in attack, he can't use his left foot and is a weak defender. I'd definitely still keep mccoy despite his poor performance, he's earned rave reviews over the last few weeks so i think last week was just an off day. There's a reason mccoy replaced foster before sandell's injury. My team would be the same as MBUWWFC's, except I would stick Beavon on instead of Betsy, and maybe change them around later to give some fresh enthusiasm.
This is like the Stockport game a couple of weeks ago and we put in a proffesional performance and got a comfortable win. I would love to see us put on a show and get a few goals, but as long as we take 3 points from it then I'll be happy. I agree with MBU though, I hate these games where we're expected to win. Northampton are on an awful run but all runs come to an end sometime. I missed the Oxford game as I've been away, but the character shown to come back is very encouraging and good to see strikers scoring! Sounds like Donnelly was impressive and Sandell is like the new left midfield signing we all wanted recently. I would start both of them for their attacking capabilities as service to the front 2 will be important. My team for tomorrow: Bull McCoy Winfield Johnson Foster Betsy Montrose Donnelly Sandell JPP Rendell
we got out of jail today after a woefull first half but once again the ref and the lino were terrible they missed blatant penalties on 3 occasions for wycombe and i could hardly blame betsy for diving to try and get the fourth penalty award.sandell looked short on fitness and kept getting caught out time and time again resulting in leon having to come over and cover for him and thats how their second goal came ,sandell was no where to be seen and leon came across to try and cover leaving 2 strikers in the middle on their own and even foster was miles away from helping out.the first goal of the game came from the penalty spot and looked very dubious but i will have to see that again on the tv tonight before commenting further.in the first half we couldnt put 2 passes together and made northampton look good.second half once beever came on the game changed donnelly was starting to make some dangerous runs into space and from one of them burst forward and into the box finishing cooly when beating the keeper as he came out to block the shot.leon scored from a powerfull header from a corner kick and it was game on 3 blatant penalty appeals were turned down and at the death bloomfield was just about to cross the ball into the box for the strikers when he was hacked down on the edge of the box.from another free kick sandell done everything right only to see the ball curl just past the post with the keeper stranded.at the end of the day our first half performance wasnt good enough but second half we were much better and if it wasnt for the officials bottling it we could have won, they say these things average out in the end so we should have a couple of penalties go for us at torquay, but then again probably not with what i have seen this season from substandard officials
Agree about the ref Rocky, he was useless. It was his inconsistency that annoyed me most, things that he gave free kicks for one minute he was waving play on for the next for the same thing. Their penalty being a prime example as we should've had two in the second half if that was anything to go by. Plus Bauza should've been sent off. He led with his arm twice having already been spoken to about it and also dived to try and win a penalty but only got one yellow card. He was generally very irritating all game too. And what's with drop balls these days? Why can't players compete for them anymore instead of kicking the ball out for a goal kick? Especially when the ball is put out of play for someone who doesn't need treatment and causes the break down an attack. It was 2 points dropped based on the second half, but we're still 3rd and are showing good character lately with our longest unbeaten run of the season so far. The crowd were great today, even when we were behind, which helped with the come back. We have a near enough fully fit squad and everything to play for. Plenty of positives to look at despite the disappointing result.
totally agree on every point and as for the crowd awesome and i have a sore throat to prove it..................roll on friday and torquay away i cant wait
i was annoyed with jp today i am one of his biggest fans but he didnt do a lot today after being given a start.donnelly i thought was awesome in the second half and really took the game by the scruff of the neck and deserved his goal and man of the match.big leon was quality as well and we look much better with him in the side
Agree with complaints about the ref...at one point he blew for a free-kick for us then noticed their player rolling about in the pitch...got the trainer on...then gave a drop ball...why? He blew for the foul in the first place not the injured player...JPP did nowt...which explains why he does not get a start.
