£20m for him, £17m for him, £10m here, £3m there...

We have payed slightly above the odds for our recent signings (Carroll was different obv) but for good reason - they plug holes in our squad - simples.

How refreshing it is that we have the muscle to actually buy the players we need. So for all those banging on about how much we have spent:

Looking forward to the new season, we finally have strength in depth (mainly in the midfield), we have versatile players who can fit into different formations.

A LB and CB to arrive this summer and I'll be very happy! Having Gerrard and Aquilani back are like 2 new signings of immense quality.

Denny Kalglish, yea but rafa did spend heavily when the yanks came in he just bought wrongly, what i would say is its not how much you spend its how well you spend it, the jury is still out for obvious reasons and come may a better idea of how well the money has been spent will be available, what is clear is liverpool have spent well over market value for players but if thats what it takes to get the club competing for 4th this season then so be it should you not improve on 6th place lots of questions will be asked and queue the wums.

The Mirror tried to ****-stir today by making out Roy Evans was slagging off Kenny in a, "Kenny has spent £105m but Liverpool are still miles off the pace warns Roy Evans" headline, when Evans was just outlining what we still need.

Meanwhile, Utd won't pay the fee for Sneijder.

I agree with this. We may be able to get off with the "it takes time to gel" excuse but it may not stick with some as we#re buying prem proven players. Like many have said there are no excuses this season. we must perform and we must make europe, I don't think anyone knows that more then Kenny & the players

    Show your figures. Include sales.

Market value or market price? Everybody's paying market price, which is inflated because everybody's buying! Last summer nobody was. But when everybody's after the same players then market price represents that. We're in the market.

There isn't a manager in the PL who wouldn't have taken £15m and Andy Carroll to offload Torres as he was. There's the difference between value and price.

There's only one market value and that's the price agreed between buyer and seller.

    Simples.

I wouldn't say we've payed WELL over the odds. Eg the Gunners offered £17.5m for Downing and we landed him for around £20m? Adam not worth what we paid?

I agree KD will have little 'wriggle room' should we not perform, but show me a Prem Manager who has?

Muppetfinder General, I would say only liverpool and united are buying, united didnt bid for downing adam or henderson, liverpool did bid for jones and young though.

The only person we've paid over the odds for was Henderson IMO. Carroll was bought with with £50m we got for Torres so I don't mind that so much.

We probably would have got Downing for cheaper last summer but the transfer market is crazy this year so £18m-£20m sounds about right, although if we tacked on a couple of million more we could have tested Valencias resolve for Mata!

Nice to see we actually have some decent shqwuad players now who can come on to change a game and give other players a rest during the season

i'd prefer to see 3 more... i think n'gog aint up to it so either carroll stays fit or its kuyt up top. oh oh..... same at lb and to be franks CB is the same if a little less urgent.

if its only 2, i'd take a left back and striker nad hope its enough.

King_Kenny, 35 million for someone with 14 top flight goals is a little excessive lets be honest here, regardless off what torres pulled in and i know newcastle knew u had 50 mill just in the bank but even still 35 million is a huge sum for someone of his experience, most expensive british player dont forget, im sure he may come good during his career at liverpool but he has to perform otherwise the fee will drag him down.

The difference between this year and last is last season. Last season showed virtually every team that they need to make changes. Arsenal had no grit, Man Utd & Chelsea's first XI had got old, Man City did not perform as well as they should have considering the money spent, spurs didn't perform while Liverpool had just spent 3 years selling to buy and barely keeping afloat.

with this in mind every lcub knows there is a need for players so the prices have been inflated

Bozz intresting question, i dont know who i would have bought would take some real thought but i know i wouldnt have spent so much, the adam deal was probably the only decent realistic price that has been paid even downing is only worth 7 odd million, i just dont agree with well its a british premium you have to pay it, well you dont lol , british players arent all that great infact they are generally no good at all, and i know the quota system blah blah but you can have players in the academy that have come through as that 8 and then have quality foreigners, for me its not about nationalisty its about quality, i mean take n'zogbia for example knows the prem not british but a far better player than downing yet hes going for half the price.

like i said earlier its not how much you spend just how well its spent

c'mon... put yourself in Kenny & Damians shoes. you have £50m to spend (Suarez deal had already been sanctioned and completed) and you have about 6 hours to complete the deal (including getting a contract signed). you need a striker and you have already targetted Andy Carroll as someone you'd like to sign in the summer (all of these variables have been confirmed). Who would you buy???

Not to mention they've got to complete a medical as well which can take the best part of 2 hours.
