Dev - see my response to Rebel. I take a slightly different perspective on all of this (as you no doubt can see lol!) You are asking me to make a judgement on what I maintain is a complicated issue and one which I am not qualified to make. It is a matter for the powers that be at the club to be the judge of what 'personal freedoms' they are prepared to allow since they are the ones who will decide whether or not to bow to pressure from the 'establishment' to conform to the establishments view of what is acceptable.

I think there is a lot of hot air blown around by people about the songs sung at Celtic matches Home and away.
Why doesn't representatives of the Celtic board meet, for example the Green Brigade who seem to lead the singing
at Celtic Park at least and have constructive two way discussion re what songs that Celtic find acceptable and
what songs, if any or not. Some lyrics may not be acceptable and no doubt agreement can be reached. The
problem at the moment is that it appears to be Rangers forums and media are deciding Celtic songs/lyrics are unacceptable.
No fans likes to be dictated to and that is why informal/formal talks should bring agreement with a little bit of give and take
    by both sides.
If a problem continues away from home Celtic board need to get to know the leaders and meet them like the Green brigade.
These meetings with Green Brigade especially could also ward off controversy over "poppy Sunday". Maybe the board could
give out cough sweets , to prevent anyone coughing that may annoy a Rangers fan 100 yds. away.

Okay Rebel - Make no mistake - I tend to agree with you. One further thing I would say though is that if the club I supported, asked me to behave in a certain way, I would conform to the request. A case of 'when in Rome....' to a certain extent! Just as in life generally, there are many restrictions and laws made which we may not like but with which we have to conform if we are not to have the wrath of the state fall on us!

Venom - don't mean to be offensive but is that not another rather arrogant assumption? 'Some of these folk' as you describe us/them may well be convinced by Dev's reasoning!.......but on the other hand maybe not! LOL!

The green brigade aren't about to be told what to sing. They define their politics clearly and the do wish to express these they are not about to be handed a pre approved songlist and be obedient and just sing from it.

Like it or not it they are part of our support I believe they are entitled to express their opinion however much I would prefer they didn't.

No you're entirely wrong; because when anyone buys a ticket to Celtic Park they are entering into an agreement with Celtic Plc to act within the guidelines set by the club. It's entirely up to the Club what is considered acceptable; assuming that song/chant isn't already banned by appropriate bodies.

The Green Brigade can be entertaining at times, but they should know their place. They are fans, no more no less.

Then the board have to battle with their own fans it would quickly spread further than the green brigade, that won't go down well fine on paper but not in practice.

Then the club shouldn't mind defining this for the support, but this hasn't happened. If we are asked to leave our politics a the door, it shouldn't come from a politician.

The GB make a great atmosphere for 95% of the time. It's the other 5% that's the problem. Just carry on having a good time and creating a good atmosphere without resorting to anything that besmirches the name of the club.

Couldn't disagree more, the club aren't about to patronise their support like that, that would result in a backlash of people getting more unorderly as the resisted being ordered about (look at the atempt get the green brigade to remain seated).

The club has made it clear on numerous occasions what is and isn't acceptable behaviour at Celtic Park and also what is expected of Celtic fans at away grounds.

If you can't leave songs about wars, freedom fighters and terrorists at the door when you go to a game then you're a ****ing moron of the highest calibre.

If you want to be involved in any of that outside of the game then fine but don't give me any excuse about singing about the IRA during a game because it doesn't wash. No matter how you try and cut it

Because whether you like it or not the Scottish Government are putting through legislation that will clamp down on this sort of activity and, as Rangers have found out to their cost, it will be the club that will suffer in the long-term.

Exactly, I couldn't give a **** about your or anyone else's opinion. I'll always take the stance that I'm correct until someone takes the time to prove me otherwise.
