He's trying to butter him up for the derby. It aint gonna work Lee!!!! Barton and Tiote are gonna pummel the **** out of you.
When I saw the title - "Oh that ****ing dirty so and so, who's he to pass judgement on wor Joey?!" When I read the article - "Seems like a decent lad actually."
He's only saying that in hope that if Barton gets called up his own aggressive mentality will go unnoticed as well.
Sunderland captain Lee Cattermole believes Joey Barton is unlucky not to have received England recognition during his time at Newcastle United. The duo go head-to-head in Saturday's derby at the Stadium of Light, with Cattermole an admirer of his adversary. "I find it frustrating with Joey Barton how he's not in the England squad," Cattermole told BBC Newcastle. "There's no doubting his ability, but they [the England management team] see him as some problem." Cattermole added: "I don't understand it, I think he would do well for the England side." Barton has just one cap for the England senior side, from a friendly with Spain in February 2007, while he was playing for Manchester City . Continue reading the main story We were so confident and I think we maybe underestimated Newcastle in the first game Lee Cattermole England manager Fabio Capello said earlier this month he considers Joey Barton too much of a liability to call him into the side. Meanwhile former Wigan and Middlesbrough midfielder Cattermole is confident Sunderland are better prepared mentally for Saturday's encounter than they were last season. The Black Cats lost 5-1 at St James' Park in the first of two fixtures, while a last-minute Asamoah Gyan equaliser in January spared blushes in the return. "It affected us last year," Cattermole said. "We were much more inexperienced, and the lads who played last year have learned from it. "Obviously, it's going to be talked about, we got a drubbing at St James', but leading up to that game we were playing really well. "We were so consistent, we were on a run of 10 games unbeaten, sixth in the league, playing the best football, and were so confident and I think we maybe underestimated them in the first game. "The second game we couldn't afford to lose and didn't play well either. "We've just got to go and concentrate on ourselves, I know it's a derby and the fans will be up for it, and it's good day for them. "Hopefully we'll come out and show a better display from Sunderland, if we can come out on top then it will be brilliant." What do you mean if? As for Barton, he's only got himself to blame, great player but will probably never get that call up.
Strange how players think Barton should have an England call up due to his good form but Capello can't see past his previous bad behaviour.
It is only Barton's past behaviour as well, he has no problem with Rooney, Gerrard, Cole, etc acting like twats. Come to think about it Capello does not really care about their past behaviour or their form.
Yeah but.... their image! Rooney is England's saviour, Gerrard is the pride of Liverpool (European city of culture), Cole is the glamourous, modern football celeb. Joey Barton tries to keep his head down and win games, what kind of example is that to set to the kids?
Barton also wants to and cares about playing for England which of course is a big no no if you are going to play for England.
Difference is Barton has been in prison on assault charges, the rest havnt. Not sure what the Visa is like for Brazil (probably lax i would have thought) but maybe he wont get into Brazil for the world cup, so its pointless playing him in the qualifiers if he has no hope of going to Brazil (even if he is good enough). and on the other hand, maybe Cappello just doesnt rate him.
Except that Capello has said he thinks Barton is good and gives the reason for not picking him as he is afraid he might get sent off even though Barton's last red card was two years ago. When I went to Brazil you did not need a visa, do not know if it is the same if you are working in the country.
