Over the months reading the forum it was always expressed that we would be consolidating this season with a target for top 8 (at least) in the future. If the achievements of Martin O'Neill are sustained and we do show that we are a force again could Ellis Short and Niall Quinn have a rethink about speeding things along with more funding to meet MON's possible "wish list" to start the new season. I would say that there is the basis of good team there already and it has been assembled at no great cost. Undoubtedly MON has breathed a new hope into the club and supporters, and an astute business man like Ellis Short must see that the potential for ditching the cautious approach and could maybe build for a future under MON. On an historical note this is akin to the Stokoe syndrome back in 72/3 when we very close to the bottom of Div 2. The club was broke and the team was under performing but money was found for Vic Halom and Ron Guthrie - a centre forward and a full back!!!!!!! If I recall the results took off from Stokoe's appointment and we finished in a comfortable league position and won a trophy.
