When it appears in the accounts at that level is the time I will start to believe £2m. More than likely the metro correspondent was scanning the bulletin boards for a figure and found the £2m suggested on here and that has become journalistic gospel. How often in the past have we seen newspaper values, that are not confirmed by the parties, suddenly evaporate like scotch mist. Do not be surprised if the figure that we recieve and which CP has available to him is significantly smaller than the journo's £2m.
Have only just regained my eyesight after being temporarily blinded by the shine off his head "What's that coming over the hill ... is it a Shelvey ??? ... is it a Shelvey ???" please log in to view this image
OK, firstly I'm behind Houndal on this - I was 20 feet away from Jenkinson when he was being abused by a couple of neds standing right by the tunnel at The Daggers. It was a disgusting spectacle and he was visibly upset by it and IMO showed great restraint in not giving them a good slapping. Secondly, I think that dignified statement by Chris Powell pretty much sums up the situation perfectly and should hopefully draw the final curtain over this whole business. Finally, we got some decent money - don't really care how much it was, but it was better than the usual pitiful 'development fee' that fails to properly recompense the nursery club for the nurturing and guidance of the player. I can't see a loser in this situation - good luck to Jenkinson in whatever he does in the future - I think he's landed at exactly the right place to develop his career. And as far as we're concerned, let's spend this unexpected windfall wisely and all move on.
