Manager Dave Jones has been shown the door by Cardiff City, the club have confirmed.

The 54-year-old, who has been in charge of the Welsh side since 2005, narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier League with the Bluebirds for the second time running this season after succumbing to Reading in the play-off semi-finals.

Reached the playoffs 2 seasons in a row and that's failure? I could understand it if they only reached mid table obscurity, but to get the sack after getting so close to promotion for a second season running is a little short sighted.

I've already seen odds of 7/1 on Craig Bellamy taking over as boss of Cardiff and you can get 8/1 for Roy Keane ;)

It's astonishing when you consider where they were when he took over. He's a victim of his own success in a way. He heightened expectations through his achievements to the point where those expectations transcended those very achievements. Watch Cardiff go backwards. They are a club that I really dislike ever since they put the prices up by ten bob for their last game of the season against us thirty years ago. Doing that for fans travelling a long distance is nothing short of mean and miserly. They've got a lot of hooligans on top of that. Horrible club really.

Seconded. The Premier League is a better place without this lot. Sacking Jones will make it more difficult for them to make it to the promised land

Did you not get in for nowt then when the doors got kicked off their hinges for that very reason, putting the prices up. Quite a few (hundreds i think) of us got in before order was restored. was bloody packed in the away end then realised at kick off we had nearly 3 ends of the ground full of sunderland supporters. Joint best away ive seen with the man city game

Poor lad. He'll be straight to WHU mind, so in the end, no skin off his nose, plus he'll have a bigger budget to spend, and will probably plunder some of the better talent from Cardiff anyway.

Funnily enough MLF that was my second bad Welsh experience in consecutive seasons. Unfortunately I wasn't one of the lucky ones who got in for free. The season before I ended up paying twice at Wrexham who had a stand behind the goal that must have been four feet below the level of the pitch, We got in and couldn't see anything and ended up paying again to get in the paddock. God that was 32 years ago! Bald is getting old lads.

Nottingham Forest manager Billy Davies is favourite to take over from the sacked Dave Jones at Cardiff City. (the Herald)

It looks like we can prepare ourselves to dislike them even more lads. That Davies is a loathsome little hobbit.

just found this rumour, it's gotta be bollocks surely, but made me think, he wouldn't, would he?

Martin O'Neill is among the contenders to replace Dave Jones as Cardiff City manager, according to the Western Mail.

Jones was sacked by the Welsh club on Monday after failing to win promotion this season, losing in their play-off semi-final against Reading.

O'Neill has confirmed in the last week that he is keen to return to management after his dispute over his exit from Aston Villa ended.

Reports suggest that the former Villa and Celtic boss would want the full backing of City's Malaysian investors to ensure he could bring in the players that would help the club mount another promotion challenge next season.

Other names linked with the vacant manager's position are Alan Curbishley, whose last job was at West Ham, and Nottingham Forest boss Billy Davies, while striker Craig Bellamy is the shock favourite to succeed Jones with some bookmakers.

Ex-Newcastle boss Chris Hughton and former West Brom manager Roberto Di Matteo are also rumoured to be interested in the job.

Commachio. No mate, I don't follow it at all. When I first came here over three years back Toronto FC had Carl Robinson and Danny Dichio in their starting line up. That was enough to put me off for life. I never watch it. Over here at the weekend we get more of less every PL game in its entirity. I see more of SAFC than I ever did when I was working in Sunderland!

I know a couple of people who go to watch it. My boss has a ST (he's a proper football fan; crazy about the game), but I've never been. I could never go routinely to watch any other club than SAFC regardless of which continent I'm on.

Plus I haven't got the time trailing about with the bairn's sports etc.

Martin O Niell gets put up for every bloody managers job in the country! Jones is a good manager and Cardiff will suffer without him having already been mugged off by Swansea.

shame mate, it's really taking of,

L A Galaxy with donovan and beckham are building a cracking side. Donovan 8 goals in 10 games, but with the highest assit going to beckham it's hardly suprising.

N Y Henry has always been cracking and is showing it again, 4 in 5.

Only watching it as our season is finished, and can only watch so many repeats.

Anyone reading this, Beckham is playing class.
