    Hello,

Over the years McLaren has got a fantastic reputation as the best car developers. I’ve always thought that is because they have never got their car right at the start of the season, and have always had the most (of the big teams) to catch up. This year McLaren have obviously got a very fast car right from the first race, so I will be interested to see how much they can develop their car, or if anyone will catch them.

Who does most people think will win this years development race? Does everyone buy into the McLaren theory, or do we think that it’s just because they’ve always had some ground to make up?

Its easier catching up when you are behind but harder when in front and stay top dog.

This rep has only come because mclaren have made bad cars and quickly copied others.

There's always a ceiling of how fast the perfect car can go so the closer you get to that the harder it'll be to develop a car. McLaren didn't seem a million miles ahead of Red Bull on race pace so I think they both may develop that part at a similar pace.

Ah - but it seems fuel calculation error meant running on low performance settings?
I think McLaren has more to give.

It will be hard, I get the feeling that McLaren and Red Bull are pretty close in terms of performance, if both manage to develop their car at a similar rate then to us it may look lie development wis ether are treading water. The gaps from these 2 teams to those below them are probably what we will need to be looking for. Putting aside how good McLaren may be at development, the fact that Red Bull hd a few issues with some of their improvements in testing makes me feel that if there is a slight edge then McLaren may have it. Personally I'm hoping it's as close as 2008 and if Merc figure out their tyre ware issues I'd put them in the mix too. Going to be interesting how their DRS works on the 2 straights in Malaysia :)
