The cup draw is on Thursday for the first round of the cup. The Carling Cup has been rebranded for people who dont know and the League fixtures come out on Monday But to my point. The first game of the season will be the Capital One cup game, not the league. I think the 1st round of the cup is going to be treated like a pre season friendly now. I find it strange to open the season with a cup game. So what do you think of this?
Good to start with a competitive game which wont effect a league, then the players will be better prepared for the first league game, unless its a game against a low/non division team where most of the first team wont play anyway.
Controversially perhaps - but I actually think this might be good for us - a real competitive game before the league season starts - yes a chance to blood some of the youngsters - but also an opportunity to get the majority of the team (squad) to embark on whatever system NP hopes will, ultimately, put us on the road to promotion
Is this game in mid week ? It better not be on the 11th of Aug as I´m looking forward to the game v Sunderland. Please say it´s on the 14th or 15th at home, I´ll get 2 games in then, BONUS.
Get in. Either at home or better still somewhere near Filey (Scar`boro) PLEEEEEEEEEASE. ...or are you just saying that PF ?
Refuse to call it whatever name they rebrand it, have to call it the League Cup. Am I being really ignorant here but don't we usually start at the second round?
We will be drawn against one of these. It can be home or away AFC Wimbledon Aldershot Town Barnet Bristol Rovers Cheltenham Town Crawley Town Dagenham & Redbridge Exeter City Gillingham Leyton Orient Northampton Town Oxford United Plymouth Argyle Southend United Swindon Town Torquay United Walsall Wycombe Wanderers Yeovil Town
Home to anyone or away to Northampton will do me - will miss the Sunderland game so this'll could be a half decent substitute.
They want the cup to be taken seriously yet the timing of it couldn't be worse. I can see a few teams I would not wish to be drawn away against, Torquay for example. A defeat to a lower team wouldn't do anyone's moral much good or an injury to a first team player. I can't see many Championship teams putting out a first team 11 apart from Leeds if this takeover doesn't materialise as we won't have any choice. Northampton and Aidy Boothroyd are putting together a team that should challenge for promotion, anyone sending an under strength team might be in for a surprise, don't judge them on last seasons performances...
Enjoyed Walsall away a few seasons ago in a pre season friendly - remember that their clubhouse was full of Leicester fans.
