Tottenham Hotpsur have broken their silence on the reports linking Harry Redknapp with the England job, with director Keith Mills suggesting they would not stand in his way if an offer is made.

Fabio Capello resigned as England manager following a meeting with the FA on Wednesday, with bookmakers swiftly installing Redknapp as the favourite.

He has long been linked with the job and has been backed to take on the role by the likes of Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney and Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill.

The FA is to hold a press conference at noon on Thursday to expand on the next move.

Mills has claimed it is not certain Redknapp will be approached, but has suggested the club would leave the ball in their manager's court.

"Harry needs to make a decision whether he'd like the job or to stay at Tottenham," Mills told BBC Radio 4.

"I'm sure Harry won't be the only candidate. Whether Harry's approached or not is not a foregone conclusion."
