CAMPBELL: âRARING TO GOâ Posted on: Thu 15 Sep 2011 R's striker DJ Campbell says he's 'raring to go' for Saturday's clash with Wolves at Molineux, having recently been struck down with a virus that swept through the Rangers squad. The former Blackpool front-man made his first appearance for QPR in a month against Newcastle on Monday night, after missing our recent trips to Everton and Wigan respectively. Speaking exclusively to www.qpr.co.uk after training today (Thursday), Campbell said: "I'm raring to go and feel a lot better now. "I had a viral infection and food poisoning all at the same time, so wasn't in a good way! "It wasn't the best of times to get ill with all the new players that we signed, but the gaffer knows what I bring to the team. "I got 10 minutes under my belt on Monday night and hopefully I can gradually get more and take it from there." Campbell watched around 80 minutes of Monday evening's clash with the Toon Army from the bench and admits that he was impressed with what he saw, adding: "I thought the team did very well - especially in the first half. "Unfortunately we didn't manage to take our chances - which we need to do at this level otherwise we'll be punished - but it's looking good for the future. "Hopefully we can build on our performance against Newcastle and get even better. "It was a brilliant atmosphere. I'm delighted that the fans have got something to celebrate. "For the 1ast 15 years or so it's not been like that and, as a Rangers fan myself, it's great to see." One player who particularly impressed R's fans on the night was recent arrival and new QPR Captain Joey Barton. Campbell reserved special praise for the former Manchester City midfielder - as well Rangers skipper last term, Adel Taarabt. "Joey's a great lad," Campbell said, "he's been superb in the time that I've known him. "I'm delighted that he's been made Captain. "Adel was brilliant on Monday night too - it's the best I've seen him play since I've been here. "He's got ability, everyone can see that. With the new players that we've got, you have to raise your game. "We're in the Premier League now and the standard has gone up a couple of notches. "It's great to have competition for places - we've got that throughout our team now." Saturday sees the R's travel to the Black Country to face Mick McCarthy's Wolves who, despite last weekend's defeat at home to Tottenham, have enjoyed a fine start to the new Barclays Premier League season. Campbell added: "It's a tough game but one that we can win, too. All the lads are looking forward to it. "We should be going into every game thinking that we can win. "Wolves came up a few years ago and they've maintained their Premier League status and grown at the same time. "That's what we're aiming to do. "Tony Fernandes' takeover of the Club has already been great for everyone involved with QPR and I'm sure that we can emulate what Wolves have done." iReader
It'll be good to see DJ playing. After watching the game on Monday, I'm a little worried about Bothroyd's finishing, although I hope it was just a bad day at the office....
