Yep, they said that our current format was unstable and needed a thorough upgrade, taking it to 2.4 and then a triple bypass, thus resulting in a byflow conduit particle sniffer being the primary driver for the platform

    Hence the move.

funnily enough i first heard of BIM today

supposedly its all 3d modelling and you cut through it for sections. sounds a bit of a leap to me

I've seen examples of it. It's ****ing terrible but the government are really pushing it.

Bim is the next big thing in architecture apparently. You draw a line and tell it if its a wall or roof etc then tell it what the construction is. My pal works at a big company in town and they have 3 guys using revit doing the working drawings for a hospital. I have dabbled in it but it seems a bit overkill for domestic scale projects. Seen ads for a revit monkey offering 70k.

The drawings have no style at all. The drawings I put out are top quality <trumpetblown> because I spend a lot of time making them look professional. It worries me that any **** now can make a living using this bim after people have spent years creating their own style of work that gets them jobs through word of mouth if that makes sense. I'm in work now crying.

My thoughts exactly. It removes any element of draftsmanship and devalues our profession. But people probably said the same when cad came out and started to replace drawing boards.

I saw an example of these "magical sections" you can create by just drawing a line through the plan, which sounds like a great idea but the section was ****ing terrible. Dimensions to nowhere etc. looks like I'll need to go to ****ing seminars and all that **** about it. Also will we be able to create our own style if the drawings are to used by everyone? I don't like the idea of some architect ****er adding stuff to my drawings

As far as I can tell there is only the revit style. The magic section thing apparently makes mistakes impossible as it highlights any conflict of elements like structure and ducting. I'm not convinced. The only people who benefit from revit are the qs as revit does the quantities for them as you "draw."

Bim has been about for years but for some reason Autodesk are really pushing revit for some reason.
