I know this is out of the blue and seems to have nothing to do with current things but I was sitting here thinking about our season so far, and got a strange feeling about the Hughton 'era' at the club.

Hughton and Calderwood are together, after relegation we seem to be going down the ****ter. Suddenly, things change! We are top of the championship ruling the devision like the lower leagues Chelsea. For half of the following season the feel good factor continues, we do brilliantly. Suddenly, Calderwood leaves. And a strange slump seems to hit the squad, we are suddenly in a five match losing run and spirriling down the league.
Hughton is then sacked and Pardew arrives.

My point is: What was Hughton without Calderwood?

What signings did Hughton bring in and what signings did Calderwood bring in? I find it hard to believe a man who can spot Tiote also thinks that Perch is a premier League class midfielder.

    Your thoughts?

He's done canny **** at Hibs, although he hasnt got the best resources to work with.
Also, wasn't it Graham Carr who found Tiote, neither of CH or CC.

Well Carr spotted Tiote. And Ben Arfa.

Hughton spotted Routledge and Willo I believe.

    Calderwood was Best and Perch.

Anyone i've missed in the past year and a half?

Calderwood was the one who forced the Perch deal, and I think him leaving was part of the slow realisation for Hughton that he wasnt going to get a contract and that caused the downturn in results, not a huge contribution from CC.

Hughton was class, not sure how much Calderwood contributed, and compared to say Carver.

To be fair everyone had heard of Ben Arfa, kinda obvious thing for a scout to tell you he's class. Best was recommended by somebody to Hughton, cant remember who it was though (think he used to be at Arsenal?). Hughton got Routledge who did what we needed and will probably get us our money back and Williamson who is still in the team now, but also got Campbell (which seemed like a decent signing at the time to be fair) and Gosling.

Don't understand why Calderwood pushed for Perch (assuming he did), as he was just as ****e at Forest, who knows?

Calderwood to Hughton is what Taylor was to Clough; they're both a bit out of their depth on their own, but together they are sweet.

He was supposedly his prodigy at Forest (admittedly in L1) but then again he hadnt really developed and was 24 when we signed him.

To be fair to Perch, he did have a good game back at St.James Park when we beat them 2-0 I think(Enrique scored as well).

Oh yeah here it is :

http://www.football-lineups.com/match/71677/ He played as a LB and looked solid. But clearly he's only good at Championship level. <ok>

Yeah, although I never actually thought we'll buy him. Apart from that game, many Forest fans didn't actually rate him that much. Why did we buy him? Because of his versatility? Can't think of another reason why..

Maybe it was just that game? We thought Simpson wouldnt be good enough and I thought we signed Perch as a starting RB at the time! <laugh>
