I cant see this being discussed anywhere else but i may be wrong. Anyway what did you guys think of Vettels move on Button at the German Grand Prix, and do you think the penalty was too harsh?
I think it is discussed too much to be fair mate, but in all honesty, the stewards decision is the stewards decision. Vettel got it wrong.
Justified as it was the stewards choice to punish him. Lets hope it's enforced when other high profile drivers do it, as this would be my only problem if somebody else does it next and gets away with it.
What surprised me was Vettel not realising, or being told, that it would be investigated as Red Bull knew that Button had reported it.
I was more surprised Red Bull didnt tell Seb to give he place back and try again during the next lap. It was very clever positioning from Jenson though, his experience showing there.
Justified decision. However, it shows the problems with having immediate run-off areas around the track.
Isn't this being discussed in the German Grand Prix thread? Surely this thread forms part of the same discussion? I would politely suggest merging the threads to avoid repetitious argument.
Hamilton was behind Rosberg the whole way up until the corner where the overtake was completed, as opposed to Vettel who completed the overtake off the track.
Is that a record btw? A thread about Vettel and Button only took 3 posts to get Hamilton involved. That has to be up there.
Guys that is why I specifically said i wasnt sure if it was discussed elsewhere! My opinion is that if there were gravel traps/grass there wouldnt be such an issue. It has also been done multiple times already this year, hamilton and Alonso did it on Rosberg in Bahrain, so there is inconsistency here from the stewards too! Through the joys of pausing live tv, i rewound and at the moment Vettels rear right leaves the track (hence defining his whole car to have left the track) his front wheel and front wing were ahead of JB. Also I genuinely believe Seb was doing it to give JB room, in the middle of the corner they were very very close so I think Seb was just being cautious. The last point I want to make is one Christian Horner made, a drive through in effect costs the driver 12 seconds of race time, so to give Seb a 20 second penalty is almost like giving him TWO drive throughs and since when does that happen?!
Every time the same penalty is given to any other driver. Why should RBR be treated any differently? I didn;t see him leaping to the defence and injustice handed out to other drivers in the pasat.
In all honesty I feel Seb should of gone side by side with Jenson while off the track to not gain any sort of major advantage, though Jenson would have to allow Seb back on track by giving him the car length. The stewards might of then taken Sebs word with more strength that he only went wide to avoid a collision and not to gain any sort of advantage considering Seb could of stayed on course at any time and possibly collided with Jenson. Side by side at that point might of got him off the hook, but not by driving around him.
he wasn't giving button room. he was leaving ghe circuit in order to get his foot down earlier so he could overtake off track. he has done it before in australia, and if he knew he could get away with it he will do it again. it was obvious what happened.
