Frankly, if this happens, I will be livid. Poor John Ruddy must be wondering what he has done so wrong!

How on earth can a goalkeeper, albeit a promising one, be a starter for England based on ZERO appearances for his club?

    Completely farcical.

Football is back and I hate it more than ever <ok>

It's cause John ruddy plays for "little old norwich" and butland is a media bum boy now! Don't mind if he a starts, its if JB plays the entire game I will be bloomin hacked off.

Playing goalkeepers too young or more to the point before they are ready at international level is almost career suicide for them. Look at Scott Carson. Some cannot hack the pressure of being on the international stage at that age and I think it affects goalkeepers far more than any other player

Facing the Italians will not be easy,so let Butland be cannon fodder.

Ruddy will get his chance in time.

I will be happy to see Ruddy return fit for Sat.

Friendlies like these are nothing but a waste of time.

How the **** Managers agree to letting their players play is beyond me.

I would pull every player out as a protest about such a pointless game.

What a complete and utter over reaction!! One makeshift Manager MIGHT make one inexplicable decision and so you hate the sport where it occurs!! Instead of going to Fulham on Sat I suggest you go to the Hewett where I'm sure there will be plenty of proper sportsmen plodding round an athletics track - unless the Government or Council have withdrawn funding - although I suggest you take your mac and wellies as it might rain. I agree with you on the issue - what the hell is Butland doing in the squad in the first place - but Football is a game of decisions some of which you agree with and some you don't. Also, if you really do hate the sport, why are you getting so upset about something that may not even happen? Be honest Supers - you are like the rest of us - can't wait for the season to start.

I have no wish to watch England play a meaningless friendly but I will if one of ours plays.
I would be delighted for Ruddy to get an England cap. I guess it would mean something to him. I wish I had one!

most people hadn't heard of butland 3 months ago! be harsh if ruddy doesn't get a bit of action especially with the broken finger episode

let's hope he plays both of them at some point, as it's a completely pointless friendly

Butland to be fair aint a bad keeper.

Certainly one for future. But as mentioned on other posts he could be
damaged confidence etc if he gets a few put by him.

Who does Butland play for ? Serious question, I'd never heard of him before infamous TeamGB.

    edit:-

That's 'infamous' football TeamGB BTW, the other members of TeamGB are heroes <ok>

They will get a half each. I'm pleased Ruddy has edged ahead of green even though he now plays for a certain nouveau riche London club.

Birmingham, but he's never played for them, his only professional games have been for Cheltenham in league 2 on loan

TBH - If JR doesn't play at least some part, then we'll know that Woy knows pretty little about football. Maybe when he was filmed on MOTD last season banging his head against the back of his seat, he dislodged something. Butland didn't impress me much in the GB team - but what do I know about GKs - I've been a fan of Ruddy from when he first pulled on the canaries 'number 1' shirt!! <ok>

According to Lee Clark if Butland plays he will now be worth 18m.

Yep that's right a goalkeeper who has played for Cheltenham of League 2, 4 uninspired games for TeamGB and 1 England cap.

I'm assuming he thinks Liverpool may be interested <doh>

Doesn't deserve to that goal he conceded against South Korea in the Olympics was diabolical.

Personally think this Butland hype is ridiculous. I don't think this whole introducing young players into England team works, we've done it for years. Just play your best players and get them playing with on another as much as possible, he is a new manager and we lacked any attacking ideas at the Euros at times, we need our best players used to it as quickly as possible . Otherwise is there any point having the U 21's? They probably stand more chance hitting potential in U 21's because the training is more suited to young developing players and as soon as they get an England cap a heap of pressure is instantly put on their shoulders as "the next big thing".

I think just play your best players, if it includes someone young than fair enough but don't just play them for the sake of it. That's my opinion on it, wouldn't be surprised to see Butland struggle to hit his potential now he has the nations spotlight on him

I think a half each is fair, they both need to play, I don't think I'd ever bother Hart in any of the friendlies now that he's well established, seems pointless.
