I like Burnsey. Shoot me down, but I do. Swanny is rubbish but i don't listen to the match commentary so that doesn't bother me. Only problem with Humberside's coverage is the embarrassing idiots who phone in. "Did you go to the match?" "No"
someone told me that he is not sports editor anymore. no more information. this either means that he has been sacked and moved to a role more within his capabilities (ie speaking to old ladies who listen whilst they are cleaning up during the morning), he is been affected by the BBCs latest radical reorganisation programme or indeed he has been promoted. On the latter of these, a previous MD once advised when i enquired how to legally get rid of a useless employee who was part of the furniture with potentially huge claim back for wrongful dismissal if so dismissed. "Easy," he said, "simply promote him then its a formality...". Is David Burns BA (Hons) soon to be a victim of Damocles?
They haven't updated the website yet, so he's still listed as being Head of Sport, though this is not really a surprise as the last time the site was updated was November 2008.
I am not sorry to see him go. He annoyed me by having to respond to every text sent in after the match. The point was to listen to the views of others and not just hear the same old rambings from Burns.
Burnsy is nowhere near as bad as some make out. I don't really think it's up to him what stories he reports on. He's given information and he's told to read it out, the only part of it that's his job is to sound good and give views on it. As he was at Elland Road when the Allams thing broke I seriously doubt he was the one who decided they'd pulled out. He was given duff information, but he had to read it. As for what his job actually does involve, he has a good rapport with the fans he talks to at the KC and his views on players etc. are generally spot on. He doesn't get carried away either way (positive or negative) and he makes more sense than a lot of people who talk about City! Whilst it's sometimes annoying only getting 1/3 of the coverage on a matchday we can't really complain as we do get the biggest 1/3 and it is sometimes interesting to see what's going on in the lower leagues, I wouldn't notice anything down there if it wasn't for them playing against Scunny or Grimsby. For the record, Lloyd and Swan are ****.
I had a bit of email correspondence with Burnsy a while back, I'd criticised the amount of negative spin he put on City stories, the fact that Radio Lincolnshire should be covering Grim-sby and the Scunts, the disproportionate amount of rugby coverage on Sportstalk and the fact the fact that Gwilym Lloyd was the most clueless person ever to be broadcast. After a few messages backwards and forwards, which were getting me nowhere, I thanked him for bothering to respond, but told him I wouldn't be listening to Sportstalk any more, at least until Lloyd had gone. The final email I got simply said 'your loss'.
Will never understand why fans thought it was good that him and that leeds scum swanny use to just go off topic while the game was on i only listened to away games and the times them two would go off on one about how much fun they had the night before.Just report on the ****in game you pair of tossers could be heard coming from my house. And they both said live on air that if it was not for the job they would never pay to watch the tigers.
i was at nearly every game, and wish id only had to watch less then half of most of them.., so you should think yourself lucky thats all you got commentated on..
