Hi, I am new to these boards, so go easy on me! Just wondered if anyone had seen the following BBC article? Seems we have rejected a bid for Buckley as well. My thoughts were if we were to lose DG, then players like Buckley/Sordell etc would be needed to step-up and fill the void next season. Or is everyone resigned to losing any player of value we currently have? http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/13468214.stm Cheers WestCountryHorn
Welcome to not606 WestCountry. There is a posting on the "Watford News" thread about this too. I don't think we are resigned in that way - but we do realise there will be one or two going - but we hope it is for the right amount of money.
Welcome WestCountry I think we're all hoping that we keep most of the core squad, but hope is all we have. It's a complete unknown at this stage though i think most of us are 'resigned' to losing DG.
Welcome WCH As others have said, we are under no illusions that we will be a selling-club for at least the next few years. If selling DG means we can keep say, 3 other players, then I think this would be good business. I guess the ideal would be to get a large amount for DG, Ashley Young to go for a large fee, and Malky get some of this to reinvest on 3 or 4 players!
Good to have you with us WCH I think it would be footballing and commerical lunacy to sell Buckley this summer. He is just on the cusp of putting a good, full season together. Sell him after he has one, one and a half or two of those, and you're talking Ashley Young money. Sell him now, and we'd be lucky to get seven figures and a sell on fee.
Welcome WCH I think a lot of young players will bring in bids for their services as other teams realise that we have a knack for spotting young talent!
