Winger faces nine months on the side lines

Bristol Rovers were today dealt another cruel injury blow, after learning that Fabian Broghammer has ruptured his Anterior Cruciate Ligament.

The German midfielder becomes the sixth Rovers player in less than ten months to suffer a cruciate injury.

Matt Harrold, Garry Kenneth, Seanan Clucas and Danny Woodards all sustained ACL injuries last season, while Cian Bolger picked up a PCL injury.

Broghammer, who has also torn his meniscus cartilage, will now be out for around nine months.

The winger, who picked up the injury during Tuesday night’s friendly against Hereford, signed a one-year contract extension this summer.

Manager John Ward said: “There are only three things you can do to your knee and Fabian has done two of them at once, and he will now be out for nine months.

“We have been extremely unfortunate as this is the 4th cruciate injury since I have been here and the sixth in the last 10 months.

"People will look at this and wonder what is going on, but all of the injuries have happened during games and not in training.

“The situation remains the same with Football League financial regulations, and at this moment in time I cannot get in players of this experience and calibre and add them to our wage bill.

“We have an exceptional situation with so many players being injured and still counting on our wage bill.

“The John-Joe situation is still ongoing, and that is covered.”

And Ryan Brunt is due to have exploratory surgery on his knee tomorrow, so the club will know more about his condition next week.

Unbelievable. What on earth are we supposed to do with that kind of luck FFS.

Looks like Ellis, Shaquille and Alefe will be getting plenty of games this season, 'cos we ain't got the cash to buy anyone in.

Is there no sort of insurance cover to compensate for these sorts of situations? I'm sure Rovers should know as they seem to have more than their fair share of these difficulties on a regular basis.
As the Rovers will now have to pay his wages for the next year, we should find some sort of suitable employment for him off the pitch.

Really feel for the lad. He'd just made a big decision to stay in England and I thought he'd really kick on this season.

    Gutted.

Apparently it was a clumsy challenge by a triallist. Are things so desperate out there that even friendlies aren't safe?

we do have the cash. we are not broke. its just the wage cap that is blocking us spending the money we have. thats if you believe what were being told about us being at the limit. i personally dont believe it.
