Arsenal were, for several seasons, criticised for not playing British players.
Wenger responded to these claims by saying that they weren't technically gifted enough to play the style of football he wanted.

Now that the Wengerball Youths are coming through, do you think that Arsenal have turned a corner with regards to the British players in the Squad?

Looking at the possibilities of players that might be in the Squad this coming season, there are quite a few British players. Obviously not all of them have come through the Youth System by any means, but:

    Gibbs
    Jenkinson
    Bartley
    Lansbury
    Wilshere
    Ramsey
    Walcott
    Oxo
    Frimpong

    That's a potential 9 players, forming a reasonable team:

    .................XXX
    Jenkinson Bartley XXX Gibbs
    ..............Frimpong
    .......Ramsey Wilshere
    Theo........XXX.........Oxo

And a space for Lansbury on the bench (though some might argue for his inclusion ahead of Frimpong, who I believe has declared his aligience to Ghana).

I'm not saying it's a great team, it wouldn't compete for anything in the Premiership, but Theo is the oldest of that bunch at 23.
There's a great core of British talent coming through at Arsenal, with Afobe & others ready to come through in the next year or two.

How do you feel about the future of British talent at Arsenal?

I only consider 4, maybe 5 of those to be good enough for Arsenal which is still a dramatic improvement on recent years!

Also, has Frimpong decided which country he wants to play for yet?

Let's be honest when the papers said British they meant English. So Jenkinson frimpong and Ramsey shouldnt be in that list. However I do agree we have a decent core of English players coming through. But it really only counts if they play for the national team so wilshere Gibbs, aoc, Walcott are there. With afobe aneke and maybe others down the line possibly playing for England. Which isn't bad but along with welbeck and others they provide a more technically sound generation of English footballers bar the andy carrol here or there

Sir while I have no issues with your sexual preference, I don't understand the need to state it on the forum.

If Frimpong didn't spend his off time being silly I doubt anyone would even care to utter his name. He has shown he is nowhere near being close to joining the first team (or any other EPL team for that matter) when he played for us, and that he is a liability to boot.

Being "DEEENCH", whatever the **** that is, isn't enough.

I'm afraid if he actually ends up playing for the first team regularly it will be an indication of our lowered standards, more than anything.

Na Coquelin should'nt be a DM. His best attributes are going forward and he's not much of a 'tackler'.

Besides we need some aggression and power in our team.

gent- I rate Frimpong highly, that kind of athleticsm, aggression and power shouldnt be overlooked. I'm fed up with having teams full of purely 'technical' players.

Everything about him screams "piss poor man's Lassana Diarra".

Would I wan't a Lassana Diarra type at our club? Yes, and it's a shame Flamini's one off season cost us with him. But a DM needs to show composure, I'm not talking about technique. The guy has to be the calmest, most cold-blooded person on the field, and that has no contradiction with being aggressive or powerful.

Don't mistake power and aggression with panic and "run up to people with no ****ing plan".

It's just a form issue - Frimpong was great before the injury he picked up.(and had broke into our first team)
We hype up or smash down our players based on a few games. Remember when Aliadiere was the 'next Thierry Henry' or David Bentely the 'next Berkamp'.

-Flamini is a great example of what i'm talking about. He had a good Season for us - but let us not forget he had THREE poor seasons before hand and has since had two poor Seasons at Milan. In short the guy has only had one good Season throughout his whole career - yet arsenal fans still talk about him like he was Franz Beckenbauer. (because their most recent memories were of good performances)

    - I dont agree he's nothing like Lassana Diarra. He's quicker, more robust, more aggressive but I'll admit he needs to improve technically and calm down a little. He's more like Gatuso or Roy Keane which IMO is a good thing. He's come through Arsene's academy into our first team squad soo lets be honest he's got to have fairly good technique as well as his athletic abilities.

Coquelin is another Denilson for me. He's not defensive enough to play as a DM and he's not got the vision to play as a playmaker. He seems best running with the ball at his feet. I've wondered if he is in fact best suited to the fullback role. I do think Wenger will favour him though as he tends to go with technical skills over athleticsm or mentality.

We all have our opinions it just annoys me how players are dubbed either 'World Class' or 'Useless' based on a couple of performances.

I guarantee Frimpong will end up playing as DM at a TOP club. Wether its Arsenal or not I'm not sure.

I don't always agree with Ammaar, but on this occasion I share his opinion and the reasons behind it exactly.

You are making it sound like I don't rate Diarra by explaining where Frimpong is better than him (actual lol), quite the contrary. I'm just saying that Frimpong shows some of the same physical qualities, but is just really quite average in comparison.

Lassana Diarra isn't a first pick at RM, but make no mistake I've seen possibly 80% of the RM games and everytime he's played he is consistently an 7/8 out of 10. It just doesn't make sense to play him along Alonso, but the guy would secure a spot in any other team in the world.

And I have to strongly disagree on Frimpong. He was the same nervous wreck pre and post injury. Bottom half EPL or Championship player at most.

Ahh, The Bear's age old argument that a player isn't good enough if he doesn't have at least 178lbs of lean body mass...

I can only wonder how the likes of Carrick, Lucas, Arteta, Parker et al have coped.

Reading his last 2 comments, he didn't mention Body Mass, or even strongly alude to it at all.

Looking for a reaction there a little maybe? Slightly bored this evening? Any chance perhaps of a well-reasoned and well thought out comment? Surely there's one in there somewhere!?

Frimpong and Coquelin are both great players with stacks of potential. I'd like to at least one of them start every one of our Cup games next season.

Please point to me where I mentioned Coquelins weight/size on this thread? or STFU.

Your still bringing up that Koscielney thread? get over it - he's a skinny Frenchman.
