I just thought I'd put this up under the same heading but make it a thread 2, simple questions put to 9 individual City fans and the answers mirror very much what we have be discussing on here, take out the 2 previous managers and MA, there is not a mention of them, they talk about the here and now, where we are, points achievment in the next 8 games until January, transfer window activity and possible league position at the seasons end.

Quite imformative article, straight from our own fans, I hope people in power are reading this it's very interesting.
    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>.....................<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
'Concerned' - Nine Bristol City fans debate Nigel Pearson and what's gone wrong for the Robins
It's been a challenging four weeks since the last international break with Bristol City slipping from a position of stability and optimism, to uncertainty and a feeling that nobody is really in control

The dynamic couldn't be more different. Having secured a gritty but also thrilling win over Peterborough United, showcasing the character of the squad - symbolised, perhaps, by Joe Williams' tigerish run to set up Chris Martin for the winner - Bristol City fans went into the October international break with a sense of confidence but also excitement at what was still to come.

The belief around the club was such that, despite their wretched record at home, some possessed a sense of self-belief that league leaders Bournemouth could be beaten at Ashton Gate in the following fixture. And, that's not to mock those people, more illustrate the sentiment around the Robins just four weeks ago.

Since that 2-0 defeat, City appear to have been in steady decline. Finding new and more painful ways to lose matches - whether that be in the final minutes of a game, to 10 men or just being completely out-fought - and even the one shred of light that shone on Ashton Gate with the win over Barnsley was somewhat fortunate.

That's against the backdrop of Nigel Pearson's personal situation with the manager absent for the 3-2 defeat at Coventry City and the first week of this second break with no clear timeframe as to when he will return to a dugout now occupied by Curtis Fleming, Under-23 coach Alex Ball and goalkeeper coach Pat Mountain after the departures of Paul Simpson and Keith Downing.

There are are more than enough reasons for City fans to look upon this next run of games into Christmas with severe trepidation, so we spoke to nine supporters for their views, insight and try to gauge the atmosphere in the stands ...

    5 Simple Questions ~
    Q1)
What were your expectations for City this season and, speaking right now, how have they matched them?

Q2) We’ll get to Nigel Pearson’s situation in a moment but what has concerned you the most about results since the last international break?
Q3) What aspects of the performances have stood out for you, and what needs to change?
Q4) On Pearson, we’re obviously talking about a man’s health here so understanding is required, but how concerned are you by it all?
Q5) How confident are you of this period of eight games leading up to the January transfer window? And of 24 points on offer, how many do you expect City to get?

    1) Low, not good enough, poor league position to be expected considering what he inherited, very poor performance level.
    2) Very poor game management, players unable to stand up to constant opposition pressure, teams know our style and how to beat us.
    3) We look a frightened, weak side and an absolute shambles in defence, everything is so desperate.
    4) Very concerned, he is the leader, we need the confidence and inspiration he should be giving us and can't if he is suffering illness, I wish him a swift recovery.
    5) With the return of Nige, Semenyo, Williams and James I'm sure our results and form will improve, at least 12 points required.

    1) Expectation was a big improvement on last dozen games of last season, has failed miserably to achieve anything like was expected
    2) 18 pts up for grabs, at least 8 /9 expected as a minimum but just 3 gained that is the concern 3 points from 18 and team readily capitulating no sense of drive or aggression.
    3) what aspect of what performances have stood out! there hasnt been any! ..... what needs to change? we need a leader on and off the pitch
    4) obviously very concerned, hint it is covid related? but could be more deep rooted mentally / emotionally
    5) no confidence at all, there needs to be swathing changes in team selection, game plan and attitude. IMO the staff to assist this are no longer here. Return from injury may help with3 players. Semenyo to replace Martin, James and Williams in mid field. Points on paper , based on last 6 games form 4, based on first 10 games [ usual yardstick ] of season 11pts. Based on positions of teams at present and whether H/A 14 points

so far this season I have belately seen 8 games and most of the enhanced highlights from seconds to minutes. Able to stop/ freeze frame rewind is quite advantageous. Saturday's due to family comittments of ill health /aged in laws 90 y o .. unable to attend home games, although currently not missing wasting £40 on a matchday visit with such poor results .. did that for nigh on 40 years ....

    1. My expectation was that we would be comfortable in the league. Not bothering the playoffs but not flirting with relegation either, whilst Nigel built his own squad from a group that were able to deliver a top half finish to his predecessors.
Sadly this expectation has not been met - yet - and it’s looking increasingly unlikely that it will be met.
    2. We look lacking in organisation no direction, no plan and no confidence.
    3. Stop conceding at around 90 minutes. We have dropped 8 points so far at that point over several games and that’s unacceptable.
    4. I’m concerned for Nige as a fellow human being and I wish him a full and speedy recovery. Thinking of the club however, we need a manager in the dugout directing things. If it can’t be Nigel then we need a replacement. If that’s going to be Curtis then fine but we can’t fight our relegation battle without a leader.
    5. If we have someone taking control of the team then I recon we could get about 6 points. If we carry on stumbling through games as we currently are then we’d be lucky to get 2.

I am disappointed with it so far. We lack a sense of direction with an absence of touchline encouragement. The past few weeks are dismal and blaming on coving is the weak way out. Team is responsible for late goals, yes, but management more so as should planned tactics and ensured we were 3 goals up
Whatever Nigels ailment, covid or other the back up staff should have performed much more positively. I wish him a speedy recovery.
I am expecting at least 16 points before January. Anything less than 10 should see a change of staff, management wise. Nigels picked his team, in his absence they should perform.

1&2 - no expectation, because of the squad, I bet City to be relegated.

3 - better players signed ASAP.

4 - more concerned for his health than our league position.

    5 - very few.

Did you bet City to be relegated under LJ? With a lot of the same squad players being used this season, if not, why?

The 2018/19 season squad - only injury prone Baker, O'Dowda and Weimann played.
Have a look and tell us who's playing now who played then.

    Questions Questions as usual.

    I'll go s l o w l y for you.

    'Did I bet ?'.
I bet when the shirt numbers are announced before a ball is kicked. Odds are best then.
DaSilva nor Kalas had a shirt in August 2018. We had Bryan (light years better than DaSilva) and Webster. Both now at Premiership clubs.
How can you say Palmer ? Get real - He didn't play then and he's not playing now.
You add Semenyo, exactly how many games has he played this season ?

I didn't bet in 2018 to be relegated, check our midfield options.
Pack, Smith, Patterson gone to Championship clubs and Brownhill to the Premiership. Look what we've been left with.

We had a 5million striker back then as opposed to a free transfer from Derby now.

I'll try again, exactly how many of this season's squad played back then.

Debating with you is impossible, you are a box of frogs. Or as some put it you have a poor command of English.

Players might have been on the list but, for example, Semenyo didn't play for City in that season, he was at Newport and Sunderland. Palmer was at Blackburn for part of that season. And FYI Sam Pearson made his debut for City in March 2021 ffs.

To say 'a lot of the same squad players were used' is just plain wrong.

We have a sh*t squad, get over it.

I visited BCFC homepage just now and basically almost all of the news items are on the Women's Football which makes me wonder if we even have a men's team - oh damn we don't.

Not entirely......The squad before LJ left, was in need of decent additions to make a go of it, as it does now. I remember on a number of occasions saying we needed around 4-5 decent players to become a decent side.
The format that NP has applied is, IMO not working for this group of players.....we do need some recruits of quality but IMO, he's not getting the best of what we've got.......and now that we've reduced the squad somewhat, the concerns were always how we'd cope with injuries etc..

    1For you digress.
As always, when you're proved to be in error.

Our debate has been about your statement that 'a lot of the same squad players being used this season'.

The facts prove your assertion was, and not for the first time about our recent past, 'utter horse sh*t'.

8 players remain from that squad that are still with us......the word "used" was an error on my part....(horse sh*t my errors... I think you meant it's rare as rocking horse sh*t.............me bad!! <laugh>
I maintain, we should be doing a lot better, even with that squad....under a so say proven experienced manager...
