Is it me or are they getting more coverage and plaudits than us? I dont know why, but it seems to me every time I see a football league programme whether it be on the BBC or Sky that they are constantly praised for the type of football they play and their results. I would be happy to admit they are doing brilliantly in the Championship and fair play to them, but I am always slightly annoyed as they dont seem to focus as much on us despite scoring more goals and having an excellent style of play, and IMO one of the best managers in the league. I am also proud to have a manager with such a great positivity and that he rarely complains about decisions that go against him; unlike some other managers in this league...However, why should I be bothered by other teams when we are top of the league, but I just wondered if anyone else shares my opinion? They're a smaller club (not trying to start an argument but they are) so it's unsurprising they're getting the attention. If QPR were 4th they'd be getting far more attention than Man Utd at the top.
I do know what you mean. I get the impression that they are not interested in us, but we must be very careful because if we develop a chip on our shoulders we will turn into Brighton. Like Poyet's comment on Sky when he said,'We don't do 3.3, we do 0.0 or 1.0' We expect to win but a 3.3 would come as no surprise to a Saints fan. It was the 1.0 against Millwall that surprised us!
I agree but like someone said being under the radar aint so bad, they'll take notice at the end of the season if we're still top.
Honestly though,i know we shouldn't base teams on one performance but after watching them yesterday i can't see them staying at the top,ok they come back from 2 down against a rubbish defence but first half they were dire, quite surprised actually,i thought they were supposed to play beautiful football.
Rather they have all the plaudits and we get promoted to be honest and it stops Premier league clubs sniffing around for players like cork, Adam etc
We've discussed this point at least twice before, this season, and it was quite true. You know what..? I'm not so sure now though. This last week has seen articles and blogs about what is happening down here. Brighton will continue to be the media darlings [note, Boro haven't had so much as a single line said about them, outside of a match report], but they're beginning to sit up and take notice. St Marys is where the real news story is.
Why the heck are we worried about Brighton? They have got to get results the same as we have. They were at home to Leeds we know how difficult it is to play and beat Leeds. Lets start worrying when our very promotion depends on their results not this early in the season surely? Tell you what though, this league is going to be exceptionally tough.....any one that gets into the Auto's will have to earn it, that is for sure.
I said in another thread that we don't know yet who our real opponents are, but generally the more draws others get and the more points they drop the better it is for us, as long as we keep up our present form. It will be hard to stay at top all season and sometimes it can all change at end of the season. However, we've had a start we could only dream of and points on the board.
Brighton is -- and I mean this as no disrespect to them -- more of a novelty from the media's perspective. They haven't played in the top tier since the early 80s, and whereas we were expected to escape League 1 sooner or later, their great season was a bit more of a surprise. Throw in a recognizable first-time manager in Poyet and a new stadium, and they seem new and shiny and novel, whereas I don't think that it's a shock that we're doing well at this level (even if it might've been expected to take another year or two).
I really couldnt care less that Brighton are getting more coverage, we're top of the league and still in the Carling Cup
