Matthew has been loaned to Peterborough for a month. I guess that's why he didn't feature against City - would have been nice for 'honest joe' Jol to have made this known at least post match.
Good move for all concerned I think. Would have preferred him over Baird at left back and definitely over Riise in his current form but if he's not going to get games here then it makes sense for him to get game time in the next best league. Peterborough do ship goals right left and centre though so hopefully his confidence won't drop if a few goals get past him.
As far as Jol is concerned, I think he sees Briggs as fourth choice left back behind Riise, Baird and Duff. So I don't think not having any cover at left back crossed his mind to be honest.
I don't see what Jol has done wrong on this one. He explained after the match that he wanted a right-footer at left-back, because he expected City's right winger to cut inside a lot. That explains why Baird was preferred to Briggs. As for Bandit's comment about being fourth choice, when has Jol picked Duff ahead of Briggs at left back?
Whenever I have seen Briggs he has been God-awful. Why are people such fans of his? Average player at best. Loan him or sell him, wouldn't be to the detriment of the team in the bigger picture.
