Peter Taylor as you so rightly said, deserves great praise, I forgot , my fault, another top man in my opp. well reminded.
The damned united was what it was a film, it was based very loosely on facts and then changed to be entertaining. Clough was a genius up there with Ferguson, shankley etc however the film made him out to be a nob. Such a shame we never had him as manager of our great club.
One hell of a centre forward and a phenominal goal scorer. Great manager and a big character never afraid to back his own judgement. His achievements with Derby and especially Nottingham Forest were fantastic, turning seemingly average players into stars and making good players realise their full potential- sometimes switching their position with outstanding success. A true hero of SAFC for supporters of my generation and an everlasting regret that our Club turned down his application for the manager's job, not once but twice.
He was the greatest centre forward I have seen play for Sunderland.I always remember his return to playing after his injury which was against Halifax Town Reserves which attracted A 10000 crowd.I think he scored 5 goals that game.Sadly he had to pack it in after a few games in the first team because of his knee
Living in Teesside I met him once when he was giving out prizes at our school prize giving day. As a Sunderland fan I didn't feel happy having to shake the hand of a then up and coming Middlesbrough star (shows how long ago it was). Of course I had no way of knowing how things would change a few years later.
