Ideally McDonald needs another striker to play alngaide him. One of the reasons he didn't score wnough at Coventry was because he was played as a lone striker, we should probably play more like this: Nelson Hewitt Legge Davies Martin Gregory Hessenthaler Harriman Dack Akinfenwa McDonald Playing a 4-2-2-2 formation or 4-4-2 diamond midfield if you're willing to put Hess a bit wider.
Last time we played with Kedwell and McDonald up front and scored nothing whilst being overrun in midfield. Senior moment alert the last game was Kedwell and Akinfenwa and we did score 1 goal.
This is what I think Taylor will choose. Nelson Hewitt Legge Barrett Martin Gregory Whelpdale Dack Harriman McDonald ***an However this is what I would like to see Nelson Hewitt Legge Davies Martin Gregory Harriman Hessenthaler Dack McDonald Marriott I think he will rest Hessenthaler and play Whelpdale which something that I don't want to see happen, I would rather Hessenthaler in the team than Whelpdale.
A defeat for us in a very wet West London.I watched on Sky and was really proud of the Players. We pressed high and had a right go.Two defensive mistakes have cost us from getting a point.Nelson made 4-5 great saves to keep us in the game.Brentford looked threatening on the break and we were defending well, but Douglas unmarked tapped home to put Brentford 1-0 up midway through the first half.Cody found himself through one on one and did the hard bit with a couple of decent touches, but his shot went wide of the post.Brentford to be fair could have gone in 2-0 at Half-time,but Nelson made a great save to tip Judge`s shot over the bar.We started the second half well and looked to find that equaliser.Brentford were looking good and Nelson denied Judge again to keep us in the game.Brentford won a corner and Barrett who has a tendency to grab hold of defenders was all over Craig and it was a clear penalty.Trotta stepped up and put Brentford 2-0 up.That was gutting as we were in the game with Dack and Akinfenwa pulling the strings after coming on. Credit to the Players we didn`t let our heads drop and collapse and let Brentford get 3 or 4-0 up.Two minutes later McDonald through again this time beat Button to pull a goal back.Donaldson was denied by Nelson to kill the game off.Taylor brought on Marriott who had a great chance to equalise, but Button got down well to deny him.In stoppage time Donaldson was denied again by Nelson. That was it,but we can be proud of the performance playing that well at a side that had not lost at Home since October. Two defensive mistakes have cost us a point in the end.If we play as well for the rest of the season, then we should stay up. MOTM- Stuart Nelson who kept us in the game with a number of great saves.
Not long got home from work and watching the recording, WHY?...No Hessy starting!!! Why?...No Dack starting. Oh and her indoors has just mention a certain Centre Back's name to me
Jeez 42 minutes in if this was Stevenage the game would have been called off by now. btw great corner ***an....huh
A good game last night under very wet and difficult conditions with Gillingham competing well against Brentford who had won their last 8 home matches. It was always going to be difficult but all the players gave their all which was not quite enough to gain any points. Shame we gave away 2 poor goals especially Barrett on the penalty who otherwise had a decent game, fully committed. Nelson was m.o.m though with 3 or 4 brilliant saves.
Gutted about last night, we didn't play that bad and held Brentford off well at times blocking them a number of times. Cody should have got 2 goals really and Marriott could have had one but they just didn't go in for us. Barrett really did let us down, poor defending for the first goal and what was he thinking, holding onto the man from the corner. That is what cost us the game, I feel we could have got at least a point but it wasn't meant to be. Next game Hessenthaler needs to come back in as I would pick him over Linganzi any day also Taylor needs to drop Barrett as he has made too many mistakes this season, yes he made some good blocks last night but that is what defenders do and I am sure Davies would do the same. So Davies needs to come in for him. Special mention to Stuart Nelson who made some real top class saves last night could have been 4-1 or 5-1 otherwise as I have to admit Brentford have some class players which is why they are top of the league at the moment.
Everyone keeps saying we played well throughout social media, I don't agree. Nelson the supporters m.o.m again dosen't suggest to me that we played well. We held off an onslaught nothing more. I've seen people write Brentford are a Championship side, they are not they are a League One side, the reason we was playing them last night. Look at out goal difference, another two goals conceded, now -11. As Lee said to me on twitter late last night, hopefully we will have enough points not to worry about that. Yeah and as i said politely, people were saying that to me several seasons back and we all know what happened then. Six points clear and on the board, but those other teams still have them games to play either way. We are so inconsistent. Why change a winning team to a losing one, either way we would still have had the same CB's. Yes i would rather lose going down fighting than lose with no belly, but we still lost, still nil points, harsh maybe but until PT wakes up with the selection and tactics he could end up being no better than if we had left MA in place. Also time to look for a new winger, pace is no good, if you end up shooting for a rugby goal or passing into no mans land. There is one simple reason PT has got my backing and that is because of the changes he had previously made, all barring one brave one still outstanding, however, last night his starting line up let me down. Many will not like these comments, just saying what i'm seeing.
Everyones entitled to their view BRB and I can see where your coming from but cant agree with the fact we didn't play well. Brentford are right at the top of the league and some Brentford fans I spoke to on the way back to the station said they thought they were lucky to get the 3 points. Boys really played with passion and I cant pick out a player who had a bad game last night. I do agree we lack width of real quality but Peter Taylor can't do too much about that, yes he can look for players now but if there aren't the players out there to sign what can he do? I actually feel he's pulled of a masterstroke by pushing Harriman up into the midfield and really gives us another proper wide option along with Westy. The goal difference thing doesn't matter because I am no longer looking over my shoulder at the drop zone as I personally feel things have improved massively under Taylor and look forward to the summer where Taylor will really get a chance to put his own mark on the team. Oh well these are just my opinions and you may agree or disagree but a good debate is just what Not606 is about!
