Sunderland will have to spend big on David Hoilett by Stuart Rayner, The JournalJul 10 Junior Hoilett of Blackburn Rovers BLACKBURN Rovers have warned Sunderland they and other potential suitors will have to spend big on David Hoilett â even though the forward is out of contract. The Ewood Park club have not thrown the towel in on re-signing the man known as âJuniorâ as his father is also called David, and if â as seems highly likely â they cannot, they are determined to make it as awkward as possible for others to sign him. Because Hoilett is 22, Blackburn will be looking for a big compensation pay-out. The Canadian is much in demand this summer after failing to sign a contract extension at the end of an impressive Premier League season when he scored seven goals in 37 appearances. Sunderland would love to sign Hoilett if they can accommodate him within their wage structure, but are just one club in a very long queue. Newcastle United, Queenâs Park Rangers, Everton and Borussia Mönchengladbach have all been persistently linked. Even though Rovers will be spending next season in the Championship, manager Steve Kean has not given up hope of Hoilett returning. âJunior is out of contract and weâve made him a very good offer,â he said. âItâs not dead yet. âIf a club in this country signs him, there will be big compensation. âWeâd like him still to be here but Iâm in the dark a little bit. âWhen a player runs out of contract, you make him a good offer and he doesnât sign, you fear the worst, but weâll just have to wait and see.â Even discounting Blackburn â which seems a safe bet â manager Martin OâNeill will have to be at his most persuasive to lure Hoilett. Local rivals Newcastle can offer Europa League football, while Bundesliga side Mönchengladbach are in next seasonâs Champions League. It would be no surprise if QPR blew all their rivals out of the water in terms of wages as they continue to flex their financial muscles this summer. Attacking players are a high priority at the Stadium of Light after OâNeill opted against making Nicklas Bendtnerâs loan from Arsenal permanent. The Black Cats are not exactly down to the bare bones in that department, but their frequent use of Stéphane Sessègnon as a lone striker shows the reality. When Bendtner was unavailable he often did not seem to trust anyone else at No.9. Fraizer Campbell only started to feel his way back from a second cruciate knee ligament operation halfway through the campaign and although it saw him make his England debut, his one-goal return in the league was more telling of his form. We are no longer in for Hoilett. He is asking for mega wages apparently. He will go to Mönchengladbach as they will have the money PLUS potential CL football next year (I think they have to qualify)

I heard a whisper, that when his representatives where touting him around Bundesliga clubs last month, they asked Schalke for £95 grand a week ( suffice to say, theyre were told where to go) so I think QWOP is spot on.
20 million Euros is the equivalent of 2 Cisse's. He is not worth that much but I wish him luck. The crazy price tag is not the lads fault. BM are signing some top talent though. The Bundesliga is getting stronger and is fast becoming the best league in the world in my opinion.

Agreed! De Guzman would be a far better shout actually if you fancy signing a Canadian Attacking midfielder.
He's far from a championship player. He's excelled within the premier league so I'm not quie sure where you get that idea. Within two years he'll be champions league class. Still, £100,000 a week is ridiculous and I imagine just paper talk.
