So far this match is confirming everything we knew. Villa look slick and dangerous going forwards, but my God are they dreadful at the back. We need to take the game to them from the off on Saturday and we will be just fine. Benteke in the air is just superb though.

Nahki Wells playing for Bradford looks the best player on the pitch, could definitely do a job for a Championship team.

He'll score a hatrick now but he was shocking when we beat them 4-1 we dealt with him then, however we did have Fonte.

I am so looking forward to seeing Rickie against their defence.

Are you saying Benteke was shocking against us? So shocking, he won about 4 or 5 headers from corners that nearly became goals and it was his first/second game in England?

I agree with your version of events FLT, he was very good in the air against us and should have scored at least once.

Jos really needs to pull it out of the bag in this game. He's the only player that is going to be able to get up to Benteke's height in the air.

He wasn't very good, Villa had 2 shots on target and one of them was Bents goal so he wasn't much of a force in that regard. Moreover Villa had 4 corners and I'm pretty sure i'd have remembered if Benteke had won every header especially if they "nearly became goals". He's improved but as I said we dealt with him well last time we played them.

I'd like to say that I do rate him and I really rate Weimann (sp) but I was making the point that we dealt with him really well last time.

You're "pretty sure"? I clearly remember that they had corners at the start of the second half and he got himself on the end of them. There was one particular header that was from a distance out and only just missed the far post; a great header. It was one nil to them at the time.

He may not have "played wewll", but we didn't deal with him in the air very well. He has since become more accustomed to our game and I think will be a danger saturday.

Have to agree. He will cause us big trouble. (& the header you talk about was close, the keeper wasn't getting there but he put it wide, took a minute to start breathing again, that good of a chance)

Shot by Darren Bent (Aston Villa) left-footed from centre of penalty area (12 yards), save (tipped round post) by Paulo Gazzaniga (Southampton). Outswinging corner from left by-line taken left-footed by Barry Bannan (Aston Villa) to centre, clearance by Jose Fonte (Southampton). Outswinging corner from left by-line taken left-footed by Barry Bannan (Aston Villa) to centre, header by Christian Benteke (Aston Villa) from centre of penalty area (12 yards), missed left. Goal kick taken long by Paulo Gazzaniga (Southampton). 46:54

Inswinging corner from left by-line taken right-footed by Ashley Westwood (Aston Villa) to centre, clearance by Rickie Lambert (Southampton).

Inswinging corner from left by-line taken right-footed by Ashley Westwood (Aston Villa) to centre, clearance by Rickie Lambert (Southampton).

They had 4 corners in the whole game, as detailed above by BBC sport, Benteke won one header amongst those 4 which went wide.

I think we dealt with him pretty well, although as I said earlier he will have improved that in addition with the loss of Fonte will make him much more of a threat this time round.

Wow! Did they say how many headers he won during the game? (I'm only asking to see just how much spare time you have....)

Never let facts get in the way of a good post

Only thing this has lacked for: a Villa red. C'mon, N'Zogbia.

Are you seriously resorting to the, "oh you are so sad finding all these things to back up your argument". I think that's pretty ironic considering you've posted 3 times as much as me since you joined. It took about 10 minutes to find that evidence due to the BBCSPORT website being really well designed <ok>. I never had you down as a snide poster so that post is a bit disappointing really.
