Hi guys I'm making my annual pilgrimage for the Bournemouth game on Boxing Day. I usually park at North Ealing station on the Piccadilly line and tube across. For Wembley that means getting the Piccadilly north, changing at Rayners Lane for Wembley Park. Last year for the Southampton game Spurs fans got off at a stop 3 or 4 up the line from North Ealing and either walked or bussed over. Can anyone let me know which station would have been used and whether it is then a bus ride or a mile or so brisk walk? Many thanks. P.S. A repeat of last year's Southampton result would be good for me if not the Cherries fan travelling with me.
Sudbury Town or Alperton stations are both about 1.75 miles from Wembley Stadium. No idea about buses
Not really relevant to Blue's question, but I thought I'd mention it on here anyway as it relates to the same game. There's no overground service on Boxing Day, so anyone that normally uses it to get to Wembley should plan accordingly.
Showing my ignorance here PNP but does that mean the underground won't be going overground, Wombling free?
The "Overground" is non "tube" train lines that are run by LRT. As with all national train lines, they are shut on Boxing day. Therefore the only public transport in London is the tube + buses.
RDBD has summed it up well, but here's a link for anyone wondering what the situation is: https://tfl.gov.uk/status-updates/major-works-and-events/boxing-day-2018 There's normally a good service from Euston to Watford that calls at Wembley and a lot of people use that. The direct Wembley Park to Marylebone trains post-match alleviate the congestion too, so that's a loss.
Boxing Day is a joke now for games. The vast majority of home support is not within easy commute, and with no trains then any ground that is not in a town/city centre is an utter mare to get to. Compound that with the Boxing day sales hordes (don't get me started on that one) who will also be on the same transport, and you have to give salutations/commiserations to the supporters.
It's Wembley Stadium station for Marylebone, not Wembley Park. There is an Oxford to Marylebone service on Boxing Day, but it doesn't stop at Wembley!
