Sunderland boss Steve Bruce is backing deposed captain Lee Cattermole to bounce back from the disappointment of being dropped from the team.

The 23-year-old midfielder was left sitting on the bench last Sunday, as Bruce took drastic action following a disappointing start to the season and was rewarded with a thumping 4-0 Barclays Premier League victory over Stoke.
But Bruce - who has bought Cattermole twice, for Wigan and Sunderland - revealed his enforcer took the blow on the chin after a run of niggling injuries and has already started the fightback.
He said: "Typical of Lee, he has rolled up his sleeves and got on with it and he has trained like a beast this week.
"I think he understood that the fight with injuries and all the rest of it, that he wasn't quite there at the moment.
"He understood it and took it like the man he is and, make no mistake, he will be doing as much as he can to get himself back into the team."

Looks like the winning line up for the next game lads, great to have competition for games, Catts was off the pace, and maybe the lay off will do him good.

Anybody would play the same team against Norwich, barring injuries, however we are talking SB here.

Glad Catts has responded positively but cannot drop anybody from the last performance.

ATM it's a case of 'if it ain't broken, don't fix it', I shall have serious doubts if anything in the team changes (apart from injuries, of course)

    Agree same team Monday.

    But

This is what I love to hear, can you imagine Cashamoha doing the above if he was dropped?? I genuinely believe Catts loves playing for us and this will only make him a better player and even more committed to proving himself.

He simply can not change the team, if we play like we did last week we will tear Norwich a new one and if we dont play the same then Catts is there to take his chance, its ****in simple, dont **** with the set up Bruce!

The first rule is dont mess with a winning team!

I dont think Catts is the most skillful player but i do admire his grit and determination and do believe there is a place for him ( in the squad ) but hes no captain im afraid, for me its Brown or O`Shea!

Syd - how can you leave out MOTM Vaughan.

Can only assume your age is catching up with you old man.

Don't agree with that that team, but seeing as it's Bruce, why would i not be suprised if it was.
