Bollocks! Quick break and a shot that squirmed underneath Gerken will see us get nothing from this game now.
Gentlemen, I fear barring a miracle 6 pts next 2 games and all about us completely losing their heads & pints, we now face the trap door. And brave Gerks for all his good saves, just isn't the same safe hands as Bart. Brenna BBC Suffolk nailing the reasons of our demise over...years. Under investment, root & branch job required, beginning with Supporters' massive uprising & protest to get rid off Evans.
Second half nothing like the first, scrappy and bereft of any quality. Mathie is being brutally honest about our chances of staying up and what the transfer window will bring for us. Can't really be bothered to break the game down too much today. Spence at fault for putting us behind, Gerken made some good saves but failed badly with one and we were 2-0 down. His clearances are pretty poor too. Spence and Edwards weak down the right, Kenlock added to the attack on the left. Downes and Nolan decent, Sears wasted wide again. We will have trouble scoring if we continue with one up top.
The most obvious 2-0 you will find going. Did I see a second of it? No. Last 4 away games.... 2-0 2-0 3-0 2-0. Christ alive. New players desperately needed. Millwall is absolutely critical. We MUST win that. Have to.
Groundhog day: Individual mistakes. Loads of meaningless possession. Bizarre team selections. There is nothing here that a couple of signings will fix. Boro were nothing special today, Millwall will be licking their lips.
May I ask re ' bizarre team selections ' ? He's tried to keep the same shape, relatively similar batch of players with perhaps 2 / 3 changes. What do you feel should be done differently?
Big ask Big Al - I guess ask me after Millwall / Rotherham / end of January ( looks bloody bleak of course )
Dreading going to Accrington now, I used to sit in the kitchen with my Dad listening to the football results on the wireless while he checked his pools coupon and Accrington Stanley struck a chord with me, at least I 'll know the way there next season.
The team is toothless up front with a soft underbelly. Put those 2 things together and we are where we are. Obviously, we need a big strong centre forward who knows where the goal is. Don’t think spurs will loan us Kane. Of the players available, I’ve never liked Gestade. Crouch - no thanks. Not sure if he’s been mentioned (he has been in every other transfer window) but how about Nugent? He knows how to score at Portman road. Definitely also need a central midfielder who can drive the team forward but in all honesty, who wants to come to us? Off to drink my glass of 1/2 empty wine
Our only consolation would be if the wheels started falling off for you by conceding goals in the last minute....wait what happened to you today??
a minor blip on the long road back to where we belong!(seriously though,we do need to learn to defend a lead)
2 massive games at home v Millwall and Rotherham, Lambert. While I'm happy with the majority of how you've gone about things thus far - * You keep issues internal and praise players to the press. * Setting up the side with a system you believe in, perhaps changing 3 max a game. No issue there. Clearly you need help from Evans in January with this ' squad ' - to my mind the worse Ipswich squad I've seen. Leaky defence, 2 keepers all over the shop this season, weak in midfield and powderpuff upfront.... 6 points from a possible 30 is an extremely poor points return from your first 10 at the helm. 4/6 from Millwall + Rotherham an absolute must - with this configuration, the win would have to come from Rotherham. Ideally 6/6. Lose to Millwall, we won't be catching them with 20 to play, that's for sure. They seem on the up. HAVE to find a way of sorting out these two results, and get some good players in and A S A P. Must do better all around. 6/30 is a poor poor return.
I can't see those zeroes next to our name changing whilst we continue with one up top. We carry absolutely no threat in the box and although some will say we need to sort out the defence first we don't have too many options to do that. At least give us a chance at the other end by playing Freddie with somebody else up front.
Lambert’s positivity in the press conferences is starting to grate. I get the need to keep criticism internal and to foster a sense of optimism. But supporters aren’t stupid. It’s making Lambert look a little too hopeful. He shouldn’t feel the need to dress up poor performances when they are this consistent and this concerning. Six points from 30 - that’s not encouraging. Unfortunately, I think we’re due further problems, further trouble, and I still cannot see us avoiding relegation. The damage done to this squad by years of underinvestment, and one of the worst summer transfers windows we’ve had in recent years, has screwed us over massively. It’s buried this club. I cannot recall watching such a technically limited, poor Ipswich team in all my years following the club (and I’d wager most of you have followed us for much longer and share my opinion). What a state. What a shame.
They are somewhat - standard protect players insert adjective. Mick used ' fabulous ' for everything, a quick CTRL and F of the following article, Lambert used ' brilliant ' seven times. https://www.twtd.co.uk/ipswich-town-news/35144/lambert-we-need-a-cutting-edge-up-top Basically ignore 99% of what they are saying - they'll deal with the players behind the scenes. In an ideal world I wish pressers weren't so dull - but given my thoughts on this before. Anyone seen the Warnock documentary? Scroll forward to 34.30 with Warnock's views on the Arsenal game - totally different to players vs the press. It'll be the same with Lambert no doubt. Agree re squad - it's ruddy toilet and needs several additions.
