I see that rather than applauding our string of good form, the biased media have been keen to latch onto certain stats they can use to infer negativity.

It's now an embarrassment that Frenchman are scoring all our goals, I suppose in a bid to highlight foreign players damaging the English game.
The Toon's French foreign legion were the toast of London when it looked like they couldn't play like a team, so now I guess the hacks are a bit miffed.

"Newcastle will now head for Swansea on Wednesday and Manchester United on Saturday with 18 of their last 19 league goals having been scored by Frenchmen, a statistic bettered only by Lyon in France."

Bettered? I'm not sure that really makes any sense does it? Only if you're particularly fussed about Frenchman scoring your goals, as if they count double or something.

Frankly who gives a flying fig about the nationality of the goalscorers all of a sudden? Is it any real surprise in our team anyway given that most of our attacking players are French?

Seemingly these stats are more interesting than those you could attribute to a certain English central defender who has arguably been as pivotal recently.

No, it's lazy and tedious journalism. As long as the goals keep flowing for us they can be as French as kissing for all we care!

Seems a strange thing to focus in on but that's the press.

I'd prefer we had more English players and English scorers. I'd prefer all teams in the PL did. That's normal as it would mean the national manager has a bigger pool of players capable of playing at the highest level to pick from. Obviously a good thing. The current reality is though that not many teams have many English players.

Obviously it is a strange situ we have at Newcastle and a strange stat. I'm sure there are plenty other weird ones around the country given the make up of our nations teams.

The two stats I care about are that we are 5th right now and that our club is financially sound.

Well in an 'ideal' world the PL would be much more English yeah, especially in terms of mad overseas owners coming in!

I just think the dredging up of certain stats are just designed to be mischievous – what are we supposed to derive from one like this and what relevance does it have?

We know we've got a stack of French players, whether they score or not!

Couldn't agree more. It never occurs to me what a players nationality is when they score for NUFC, I'm too busy celebrating...
