Would be good if he does extend his contract for many reasons Lib. On the surface it shows commitment but in reality it means we can we get rid of the now defunct sell on clause and insert a new realistic, for us, figure. Also it means if he does go we can ask more than we currently can. I doubt anyone would be interested in Jan anyway due to his International commitments so it looks as if we're protecting ourselves for the coming summer onslaught.
This is to protect us more than bony. Credit goes to bony for agreeing a one year top up to keep his value as high as possible that we will get a good return if he should be sold....Great bit of business by the club....
Some are suggesting it would take at least 20 million to get the lad from WBA after 10 PL games. With that and Lukaku going for 28 million my clause would be £25 million as it puts us in a win win situation.
That would seem the logic behind it. If Lukaku is a £28 mill player, then Bony must,at the moment, be worth at least the same amount. Things can change, however, but Lukaku's current price is a useful yardstick as to values. I must say I was worried when we splashed out £12 mill for Bony, since it was so far out of our usual range, but it was a good purchase.
Agree. I was worried when it was being rumoured that the buy out clause was 19 million. Without a clause in a new contract, we hold all of the cards.
(I know I'm glass half full) But how many players and managers have signed extension only to leave very quickly after wards? I'm not sure it means much legally and it could be clarifying ambiguities in the original contract - but is a psychological boost. Bony's worth? We don't really know what Gomis can do over a season but the consensus seems to be we shouldn't expect too much, so to replace Bony would cost us at least the £12 we paid for him and probably more unless we unearth another Michu but that would be quite a gamble. Given his age and ability, the right team could be looking at paying £20 mn but we should be holding out for more. That said only Brendon has paid full whack for a Swans player otherwise the rule is we buy high and sell low compared to English clubs. Hopefully he will be with us at least another season and European qualification (should that happen) might keep him longer but that is a bit fanciful imo.
Think you meant empty Bob? But I agree with you. The extension doesn't mean he's staying but it certainly benefits all parties.
Agree Bob. I think it's a case of doing away with that buy out clause, if it existed and by adding an extra year onto his contract, it pushes his value up that little bit more so at least if someone now comes in for him, we hold all of the cards.
That is the main reason for just a 1 year extension bob. It keeps his value up and a safety net for us. If he has a good season then he will go but at least we are in control of the fee for him....Bony has to be thanked for agreeing to do it as he did not have too.
"the new contract will not include any release clause". Well done Huw and Monk, what a dream team, Monk looks very much on track to be the real deal, and he has given us one of our best ever starts in top flight, well done Garry!....................
