Does anyone know how long your sample stays on the A.N database ? I gave my sample years ago and presumed it stays forever.
Everyone should be a donor, not just bone marrow but organs as well. Thousands of people die every year waiting for donations. A Family donated the organs ot their 14 year old son which saved the lives of at least 5 people, including me.
Your "tissue type" stays on forever. If you are a match for the person, you will be contacted and asked to come along and give a donation from your bone marrow This is why everyone should do it....You are only ever asked if you are a tissue match, and it is as rare as hens teeth...this is why everyone should do it..... Family members are usually the most perfect match....but every now and then a "perfect stranger" turns out to be a "perfect match"...and then ....
The R's 'family' has certainly rallied round... http://www.qpr.co.uk/news/article/020614-joey-ziadi-qpr-fan-bone-marrow-transplant-1592497.aspx?
