Game day, and another tough trip. We could for with a win, but a draw would be acceptable. But I'd like to see us get our first away league win, and as we seem to leak goals, I'll go for a 2-1 away win. Anyone know when Sessignon is back?
Well beaten by all accounts. Feel for the travelling faithful, especially the ones who only go for the football match. It seems we don't have a Plan B, and teams have us figured ahrt.
Yes, disappointing for the travelling Charlton fans. I assume they showed their support right to the end and did not get on the players' backs.
Garner has opened up a bit on where we are. Along the lines of 'promotion either this squad would be over achieving'. I didn't have the feed today. But Curbs and Brownie were apparently both very critical of where we are right now. Taken on it's own, a loss st Bolton is hardly the stuff of nightmares, but ending the transfer window short of players, and then turning in a poor display, has done a lot of damage to the Sandgaard project. And hold on, as one poster on CL is saying Sandgaard is now considering selling, and there is some interest.
Sandgaard now considering selling? Because we got dicked at Bolton? Some interest? I'm sorry - no disrespect intended Ken, I know you're only passing on what somebody on CL has said. but what has TS got to sell? Who would have any interest in buying a Club with no assets and a huge ongoing bill for running costs and wages, for hundreds of employees. A Club worth nothing except the value of its squad (a couple of million quid in a fire sale). _________________________________________________________________________ What bothers me more this evening is the reaction of our manager to the defeat today. He may simply be responding with unfiltered honesty, and it is difficult to criticise honesty. But Ben Garner appears to be (in effect) writing off Charlton's chances of finishing in the top 6 this season - after one poor performance and deserved defeat. What kind of message does that send to his players? That he does not believe they are good enough, regardless of how much he tries to train and motivate them. An honest assessment that may be, assuming BG is not just wallowing in is own post-match misery. But that is not the way to salvage seeds of confidence for the future. Instead of putting on a brave face for the microphone and then laying into his players in private, Garner is simply offering the less confident ones a huge excuse to continue to fail in the future, and hide behind the day he seemingly threw in the towel on their behalf - two days after the transfer window closed. I'm sorry, but I don't want to hear that. And I imagine Thomas Sandgaard doesn't want to hear it either. When things don't go well, a manager should not be saying in so many words "I didn't get what I wanted, so that's all folks until this time next season". This bunch of players does not deserve to be let off the hook (and publicly insulted) in that manner. They need to roll their sleeves up, stop feeling sorry for themselves and get f**king stuck in. I don't want to hear any more self pity. That crap certainly doesn't want to come anywhere near the Valley next weekend.
As you say. I'm just passing on the message. Which isn't that TS has decided that after losing to Bolton (which is somewhere we often do badly) that it's all too much, but that word amongst the staff is that this has been under consideration for a month or two. Possibly finding out L1 football costs a lot more money than might be expected by an overseas novice? We'll see I guess.
As I see it TS's Plan A was to storm L1 and get into the Premiership then Champions League. When this disappeared in a cloud of dust his Plan B was to put the club on a sustainable basis, ie run at a profit in L1 until we achieved success through the Academy. And he's still losing money hand over fist with no immediate prospect of promotion, so he must be looking at finding a Plan C.
